Aquaman
Plot
In a world where the ocean is home to a vast array of magical creatures, human and Atlantean coexist in an uneasy balance of power. As the half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry, played by Jason Momoa, is thrust into the forefront of an ancient prophecy that foretells the coming of a great king. At the center of the story is Arthur's troubled heritage. Raised by his human mother, Thomas Curry, a lighthouse keeper, and a mysterious woman from Atlantis, who gives birth to him, Arthur struggles to reconcile his two identities. While his mother lovingly encourages him to explore his human side, the sea surrounding them whispers secrets of an underwater kingdom, Atlantica, ruled by the enchanting Mera and controlled by King Orm, Arthur's half-brother. Upon Thomas's death, Arthur feels lost and disconnected from his father's legacy. He possesses extraordinary abilities as a result of being half-human and half-Atlantean, which only increase with the increased power given to him from his human father and the magic from his Atlantean heritage. However, he neglects his true identity and responsibilities towards the underwater world. Famed journalist Willem Dafoe, who is later forced by King Orm to participate in a role of sorts to demonstrate there might be consequences later, portrays Vulko, the most trusted advisor to King Orm. Arthur has spent his life pretending to be human, earning the nickname, "Crushin' It" by his surfing friends. The local legend begins to weave itself around him, telling the tales of Arthur, but as his talent on the surface-level increases more people demand of his assistance. His decision to participate in the various competitions tests him – he ultimately brings the glories with him but struggles to live up to his dream. As events unfold, Arthur learns of an impending war waged by King Orm against the surface inhabitants. Convinced of his part in the plan to unite Atlantica against the humans, he starts questioning his Atlantean identity and responsibilities. Arthur is torn between the desire to connect with his true heritage and his affinity for the surface world. Arthur learns what he truly has in his heart. His Atlantean heritage allows him to converse under water through his father's guidance but struggles to be welcomed back with open arms to the place his father comes from. Meanwhile in Atlantica, Mera sets out on a perilous journey to intervene in King Orm's quest for domination. She hopes that her courageous act, in what is expected of a true queen of an underwater kingdom, would be enough to avoid the coming war and for the past damage surrounding her betrayal of her brother and its resultant ripple to become undone. As war looms on the horizon, Arthur sets out on a grand adventure to discover his true identity and unite the kingdoms against the impending threat. In this life-changing journey, Arthur faces enormous challenges as he battles powerful sea creatures and confronts the treacherous King Orm. To find itself on the balance, both as a powerful and warring kingdom the inhabitants struggle, an effort the great king could be making in the midst of this treacherous and emotional separation to bring people closer home leaving room for love to conquer. Through every turn in these test of strength, he proves himself worthy as a hero in three realms – human, Atlantean and the sea. Arthur can become worthy of his legacy not by taking the title of king but by truly owning it.
