Set against the picturesque backdrop of the South Downs, a national park in England known for its rolling hills and vast expanse of undulating landscape, 'Backtrack' is a gripping narrative about four friends who embark on a well-received camping trip. The excursion becomes a test of their resolve as the friends must confront their dark pasts, a journey of self-discovery and confrontation they would rather have remained off the agenda. As a way to reconnect, they reunite, leaving their hectic city lives behind and opting to reconnect over a weekend. The four friends - played by Matthew Whittet, Sophie Kennedy Clark, and Matthew Lewis, along with Jamie Dornan - are all individuals with their own sets of troubles, insecurities, and unresolved conflicts, which they had been trying to keep under wraps. Jamie, portrayed by Matthew Lewis, is initially hesitant to join the gathering, which prompts him to have a serious reflection about his own circumstances and how they could have led to his decision not to attend. This could be the key factor behind the fragile peace between her friends and her own insecurities that keep rising to the surface during their retreat. Matthew Whittet's portrayal hints that even though he comes from a privileged upbringing, the pressures he is subjected to as he struggles in an ever-competitive world could ultimately lead to feelings of unease and anxiety.
