The whacked-out Cuban drug lord Johnny Tapia emerges as the central figure, with powerful connections to Russia and Haiti, countries infamous for their robust and ruthless mobsters. The atmosphere in Miami remains tense, not just due to the rapidly escalating fight for control of the Ecstasy trade, but also because of an intricate and clandestine romantic triangle that has developed between the two detectives. Mike Lowrey's playboy persona takes center stage when Marcus discovers his brother-in-law Mike is secretly in a relationship with his sister, Syd.
