Banana Spirit

Plot

In the midst of a bustling city, where the veil between the spiritual and mortal realms is at its most transparent, an unlikely duo of Chic and Che takes on the most peculiar and intriguing task. Chic, played by the talented Francis Ng, is a charismatic and street-smart individual who finds himself inextricably linked to his friend Che, a Taoist ghostbuster, through their shared history of owing substantial sums to the notorious mobster Rabid Hsiung. As they navigate their precarious existence, they are approached by none other than the venerable and wise Taoist master Tang, who requests their assistance in capturing a most elusive and enigmatic entity known as the Banana Spirit, or Muyung Yu-Yu. Their nocturnal foray sets the stage for an unfolding narrative of wonder, seduction, and supernatural intrigue. As they delve deeper into the realm of the unknown, they inadvertently awaken the slumbering spirit, who manifests before them in the breathtaking form of a ravishing model. It is at this instant that the captivating dynamic between Chic and Yu-Yu is established, with the ghostly beauty effortlessly captivating his heart with her ethereal allure. As their relationship blossoms, a web of intricate circumstances becomes clear. Yu-Yu's extraordinary presence on Earth has an undeniable impact on Chic, whose life takes a sharp turn for the better when she saves him from being gunned down by Rabid Hsiung's men. Furthermore, her powers grant him a stroke of extraordinary luck, which enables him to win a life-changing amount of money at one of Hsiung's casinos. The sheer magnitude of this windfall would suffice for most individuals to abandon their troubles, but for Chic and Che, this is merely a momentary respite from the all-consuming specter of Rabid Hsiung's wrath. As Hsiung's interest in Yu-Yu's powers grows, he forges a sinister plan to exploit her abilities for his own malevolent purposes. His intentions set in motion a most dire and terrifying confrontation, with Chic taking drastic but ultimately fateful measures to prevent Hsiung's nefarious scheme. In a tragic and pivotal moment, the tables are turned when Hsiung rises from the very depths of the underworld, transformed into an avenging, clownsque evil spirit driven by an insatiable hunger for revenge. Time itself has become a pressing concern, as Yu-Yu's allotted days on Earth dwindle with each passing moment. Their love story serves as a poignant reminder that the boundaries between love, loss, and mortality are but a thin veil separating the realms of the living and the dead. Through their tumultuous journey, Chic and Yu-Yu find themselves bound together by an indomitable force of devotion and love, one that will carry them through even the most trying and extraordinary of circumstances. As their paths unfold, it becomes increasingly clear that the lines separating the natural and spiritual worlds will continue to blur, drawing Chic, Che, Tang, and the enigmatic Yu-Yu into an intricate dance of life, death, love, and the unyielding forces of the occult.

This is a crude and boring Taiwanese ghost movie. The only redeeming quality is Man Chi-Leung's performance.
