Plot

Blitz, a 2011 British crime thriller film, delves into the realm of dark and gritty crime scenes as a police officer, namely Detective Tom Brant (played by Jason Statham), takes on a challenge of a lifetime – dealing with a ruthless serial killer targeting police officers. The film is set in the crime-ridden and crime-scarred streets of London. Detective Tom Brant is a loose cannon, known for his abrasive demeanor and willingness to push limits and bend the rules in the pursuit of justice. As a result, Brant has established an uneasy relationship with his colleagues and superiors alike, constantly walking a fine line between being an effective officer and being one step away from suspension. The introduction of this despicable character, a serial killer preying on and targeting police officers, puts Brant at the center of a compelling quest for justice. Brant takes on the gruesome assignment after another officer becomes his seventh victim, compelling the entire police department to come to the realization that this is no ordinary perpetrator. Brant refuses to go by the book when it comes to solving the murder case. At the same time, Commander Gere (played by Paddy Considine), Chief Bri Milne (played by Adam Long), and other respected police officials criticize Brant for his unorthodox methods as he battles against time to bring justice to the increasing body count. While going through his usual routine, Brant crosses paths with an older officer, Nathan Quinn (played by Paddy Considine and performed by Noel Clarke). Nathan Quinn brings much-needed balance to Tom Brant's determination to solve the case. Despite some disparities between their respective approaches, they agree to collaborate on the matter. Meanwhile, Brant digs deep into the life of the key suspect. Along the way, Brant pieces together disjointed information from a seemingly innocuous set of photos taken in the last 40 hours or less – evidence which eventually seems like it could all be Brant's undoing: Brant starts getting closer to a critical piece of the puzzle. Brant feels for a young woman – the officer's fiancé, Rachel Jones (played by Aidan Gillen) who could be the key in piecing together the lives of police officers to figure out who this individual is. With Inspector Porter being constantly bullied by his peers, getting himself pushed deeper into despair each and every day of his investigation, Brant creates tension not just among his coworkers, but in his own household. Inspector Jones decides not to rely solely on Brant anymore, sending down an undercover for additional detection. Brant starts getting progressively more volatile each and every day as the suspects grow in number and the overall tension reaches its breaking points. The final scene features the relentless spirit that Brant embodies throughout the film culminating in the inevitable face-off between Brant and the serial killer. Having lost everything in his pursuit of justice within the last 30 minutes of the film and fighting off several more officers for a grip on law and order, Brig Brant encounters an injured Quinn. In the end, the audience is met with the brutal truth, which adds an existential aftermath during its conclusion and ties everything Brant was talking and dreaming up into one chilling realization that continues for generations.
