Centigrade

Plot
Centigrade, a harrowing drama, tells the story of Tom, an American scientist, and his girlfriend, Ida, an artist, who embark on an expedition to the arctic mountains of Norway. The duo is on a road trip adventure of a lifetime, seeking to immerse themselves in the vast beauty and harsh conditions of the polar wilderness. Their ultimate goal is to reach a remote research station, where Tom hopes to further his knowledge on the effects of climate change in such unforgiving environments. As they journey deeper into the mountains, the weather begins to take a turn for the worse. The landscape darkens, and thick snow clouds start to form, enveloping Tom and Ida in a swirling vortex of white. It's during this moment of reduced visibility that they come across a small cabin – an impromptu stop, they assume, which can provide them refuge from the blizzard raging outside. However, their short-lived respite from the tempest is short-lived. After settling down in the cabin, Tom and Ida are jolted awake to the sound of crunching ice beneath the weight of accumulated snow. Their world is reduced to the confines of their vehicle, now buried beneath layers of ice and snow – a claustrophobic nightmare that promises to stretch on indefinitely. Trapped in the suffocating environment of the SUV, Tom attempts to salvage their predicament, using his knowledge of geology and environmental science to estimate the chances of their survival. The harsh temperatures, dropping precipitously due to the snow-covered vehicle radiating heat, paint a dire picture of the fate awaiting them in the arctic void. As Tom struggles to stay optimistic, his mind starts to wander to Ida, his love interest and a free-spirited artist, who is facing her own battle for survival. Her condition, however, is far more dire than his. The lack of oxygen, plummeting temperature, and isolation conspire against her, casting her fate in an uncertain light. Their plight is compounded by communication difficulties, with their cell phones rendered unusable due to the remote location and lack of signal. Their attempts to alert their friends and family back home remain in abeyance, as the harsh environment silences all means of communication, leaving Tom and Ida isolated and defenseless. The arctic conditions exacerbate their predicament, testing their physical and mental resolve. Tom, drawing on his scientific expertise, tries to devise inventive and resourceful solutions to extend their chances of survival. In the meantime, Ida's fragile body succumbs to the creeping darkness of hypothermia, making Tom confront the darkest fears that threaten the bond between them. As the hours tick by, with each passing moment threatening to spell disaster, Tom and Ida are confronted by the unforgiving vastness of the arctic, where human endurance has pushed the boundaries of survival. It is up to Tom to make a series of desperate, life-and-death choices that will seal the fate of the two – forcing him to balance the probability of survival against the inevitable. Throughout the ordeal, the movie raises questions on love and sacrifice, as Tom confronts his own vulnerabilities in the face of the overwhelming threat that surrounds him. In the midst of a desperate bid for survival, Tom finds himself grappling with existential questions about the purpose of human existence – as he fights against the odds to keep love alive against the unforgiving backdrop of the unforgiving arctic wilderness.
