Plot

In the 2000 British comedy-drama film "Cheeky," a story unfolds that is both an exploration of relationships and a satirical critique of societal norms. Directed by David Atkins, the film delves into the experiences of Carla Roberts, played by Kimberly Nixon, a seemingly innocent and affable British medical student, who finds herself at the center of a series of complex and unconventional interactions. The film begins with Carla on a mission to find an apartment in London for her Italian boyfriend, Al, played by Louis Greatorex. During her search, she meets Moira, an eccentric and charismatic real estate agent, played by Katherine Parkinson. The apartment that catches their attention is an attractive but slightly seedy flat overlooking the Thames River. Carla, initially enthusiastic about Moira's vivacious personality, begins to develop a growing infatuation with her. Moira, sensing Carla's curiosity, becomes a temptress, wearing attractive outfits and making subtle yet pronounced advances towards Carla. Despite the early signs of romance, it's made apparent that Moira has one main goal – seduction. Through their interactions, viewers are given a glimpse into Moira's promiscuous lifestyle. A professional tease with an array of different sex partners all over London. Her social life is showcased as she attends upscale gatherings in London's social scene. She uses her charm, wit and good looks to entice men and women alike to fulfill her sexual needs. As Carla becomes increasingly enthralled by Moira, her relationships with her Venetian boyfriend, Al, and her friends and family begin to deteriorate. Her persistent flirtation with Moira ignites a mix of emotions within Carla, making her reevaluate her values and her relationship with Al. In turns, Moira becomes a catalyst for Carla's sexual awakening. While the relationship between Carla and Moira is at the core of the movie, it also raises questions about identity, intimacy, and societal norms. The manner in which they connect prompts the audience to consider what relationships truly signify in a world often geared towards conformity. Moreover, the character of Rafts (played by Gwion Gough), an unusually open-minded person that Moira pursues, is used to clarify why these themes of free love, an individual's limitless option, can occur based upon open-mindedness towards what they believe love should be. Ultimately, the interactions between Carla and Moira unfold in a very public and confrontational manner. The complexity of human relationships and the ability to comprehend and interact with both male and female coexclusively is ultimately highlighted in this engaging British drama. By engaging viewers in Carla's encounters with the alluring and enchanting Moira, the film opens a conversation about attraction and relationships in a society increasingly governed by norms.
