Plot
Amanda returns to her family's sprawling farm in southern Brazil after a 15-year absence. She has brought with her a new perspective on life in the form of her French boyfriend, Martin. Together, they arrive in the secluded village where Amanda's family has lived and worked for generations. However, their tranquility is short-lived as they are met with an atmosphere of tension and foreboding. Amanda's father lies in a deep coma on the farm, the exact nature of his condition unclear. The village is small and isolated, and it seems that Amanda's father's health is deteriorating by the day. In a desperate bid to save her father's life, Amanda turns to the only doctor in the nearby village, Helô. Helô is a compassionate and well-intentioned young woman who has given up her ambitions to care for the local townspeople. Despite her dedication, the village's isolation and limited resources make it difficult for her to access the medical supplies and expertise she needs. Despite these challenges, Helô is determined to do everything she can to save Amanda's father's life. She works tirelessly to tend to his condition, but her efforts are constantly thwarted by the lack of resources at her disposal. As Amanda watches her father's health continue to decline, she becomes increasingly desperate. She starts to question the motivations of the village leaders and the true nature of the relationship between the farm owners and the workers. As tensions rise, Amanda begins to uncover a disturbing reality. The farm owners have a history of exploiting the workers and disregarding their rights. The workers, who are largely migrant laborers from rural areas, are subjected to harsh conditions and are frequently denied fair compensation. Amanda's father has always been a just and fair employer, but it is clear that the farm is in disarray without him at the helm. Helô, too, is aware of the problems facing the village. She has seen firsthand the suffering of the workers and is determined to make a change. However, with the farm owners' influence and control over the village, she fears speaking out could have serious consequences. As Amanda struggles to come to terms with the reality of the village, she finds herself at the center of a settlement that will have far-reaching consequences. The impending death of Amanda's father will see the farm's control pass to either her or her brother, who is currently abroad. The workers, however, have grown tired of their treatment and are organizing a strike. Helô, meanwhile, has grown increasingly conflicted about her role in the village and her responsibility to speak out. The fate of the farm and the village hangs in the balance. Amanda's return sparks a sense of hope and renewal among the workers, but it also highlights the deep-seated problems that have plagued the community for years. As tensions boil over, Helô finds herself torn between her duty to the workers and her loyalty to Amanda and her family. The stakes are high, and it remains to be seen whether the settlement will be resolved peacefully or erupt into conflict.
