Crawlers takes place in a dystopian future where the year is 2030. A zombie pandemic, described as one of biblical proportions, has ravaged the United States, turning a once thriving nation into a desolate wasteland. With the death toll mounting and civilization on the brink of collapse, a dwindling number of American survivors, desperate for safety, set their sights on a mythical refuge called 'El Santuario del Sur', or the Southern Sanctuary. Located on a rocky plateau in a remote area of Mexico, El Santuario del Sur has become the end goal for countless survivors. The sanctuary is believed to be zombie-free, thanks to its geography – a towering rocky outcropping that isolates the plateau from the zombie-infested world below. Word of this haven has spread like wildfire, drawing a motley crew of desperate survivors to its doorstep. One such survivor is Sofia, a determined and resourceful young woman who has lost her family to the zombie outbreak. Along with her small group of friends, including Joel, an athletic young man who lost his arm in a previous encounter with the undead hordes, Sofia embarks on the perilous journey to El Santuario del Sur. Together, they brave the treacherous terrain, scavenging for supplies and fighting off the ever-present zombie threat that surrounds them. The trip isn't without its challenges, however. A deranged individual, seemingly driven by a twisted desire for power, now controls a group of heavily armed scavengers, preying on the vulnerable and desperate travelers. This ruthless individual, along with his henchmen, sees the sanctuary as a means to exploit its presumed resources, and will stop at nothing to claim it for himself. As the journey progresses and their group encounters numerous misadventures, we are introduced to various other characters, including Father Martin, a fatherly figure dedicated to ensuring the safety of his congregation and the preservation of humanity's future. Their paths intersect, ultimately testing their resolve and trust in each other as they approach the isolated remnants of society, in their own fight for survival. Sophia, Joel, and their companions must weigh their options carefully as they face multiple paths to the sanctuary, fraught with conflicts and the ever-present specter of the undead. Does the group choose the safe route, which by many accounts takes longer but reduces the risk of being attacked? Or do they attempt a breakneck speed rush through the countryside, where they risk triggering ambushes and random unwarranted zombie attacks? Each decision poses a significant risk, not solely from the outlaws that pursue the group, but also the thousands of infected hordes roaming the wasteland, relentless in their quest for human flesh. Ultimately, when forced with difficult circumstances that call upon the deepest existential questions – survival vs guilt & their willingness to participate should significant others have a say in what's at stake. However, if it isn't the outlaws, or the infected crawling below who threaten them the greatest risk comes when encountering new and genuine survivors towards the South-American borders, It then becomes difficult to discern who can be trusted and if they genuinely hold the key to help them finally prevail their horrific hardships prior of attaining the island that may yet deliver them from a painful existence that rages on because nearly all others close to them, as well as themselves, have fallen beneath the grasp of death.
