Plot
Nick Hume, a successful and mild-mannered executive, lives a seemingly perfect life with his loving wife, Ellen, and their young son, Joey. The Hume family resides in the picturesque suburb of Seattle, where they have built a comfortable life. Nick works as a high-ranking executive in a large corporation, while Ellen is a homemaker, taking care of their son's needs. They are, in all appearances, an idyllic family. However, their lives are about to take a drastic turn when Nick witnesses a brutal and heinous crime that will leave him forever changed. The events unfold on a warm summer evening when Nick takes a detour from his nightly routine to pick up a pizza for dinner. He parks his car near the local convenience store and gets out to check on Joey, who has gotten out of the car to buy some gum. As Nick walks towards Joey, he sees a group of teenagers attempting to carjack a passing truck. The situation quickly escalates as the carjackers become aggressive and violent. In the chaos that ensues, one of the teenagers stabs the truck driver before turning his attention to Joey. Nick, seeing his son's life in danger, rushes to intervene. In the heat of the moment, he beats the teenagers to a pulp. However, one of the carjackers is actually the son of Victor Walker, a notorious gang leader with a history of violence and crime. The incident sparks a chain reaction of events that puts Nick and his family in grave danger. The police are unable to apprehend the attackers, despite Nick's efforts to identify them, and the authorities inform him that the perpetrators will likely avoid prosecution due to a lack of evidence. Nick's perception of the world is forever shattered as he realizes that justice is not always served. His faith in the system begins to crumble, and he starts to feel powerless against the evil that exists in the world. The event leaves him emotionally shaken, and his family suffers as well. Ellen, sensing Nick's despair, tries to be supportive, but her own fear for their safety begins to grow. As the days go by, Nick becomes increasingly consumed by a sense of responsibility to protect his family. He starts to obsess over the carjacking incident, feeling that he is the only one who can prevent another tragedy from occurring. His fixation on the incident starts to affect his relationships with those around him, including his wife and son. Ellen becomes concerned about Nick's growing detachment and inability to let go, while Joey is frightened by his father's increasingly erratic behavior. Determined to take matters into his own hands, Nick embarks on a solitary mission to track down the carjackers and exact revenge. Using his corporate resources, he gathers intelligence on the gang and starts to track down Victor Walker. However, his pursuit of justice rapidly descends into vigilantism. He crosses a line that he had previously thought he would never cross, and he begins to lose himself to his own darkness. As Nick becomes more ruthless and consumed by his vendetta, his relationships with his family continue to deteriorate. Ellen tries to intervene, but Nick's fixation on revenge is all-consuming. The family's bond starts to fray as they are all drawn into Nick's orbit, each trying to navigate the fallout from his actions. The film is a gripping exploration of the breakdown of a seemingly perfect family and the lengths to which one man will go to protect those he loves. As the stakes escalate, Nick finds himself caught in a world of violence and retribution, and it becomes increasingly difficult to distinguish between right and wrong. With his reputation at stake, his family in danger, and his own morality in tatters, Nick is forced to confront the true nature of his quest for revenge. Will he ultimately find justice, or will he succumb to the darkness that has consumed him? The outcome is far from certain, and the journey is a harrowing exploration of the depths of human despair and the lengths to which a father will go to protect his family, no matter the cost.
