Dukale's Dream

Plot
Dukale's Dream follows the journey of Hugh Jackman, a renowned actor, and his wife Deborra-Lee Furness, as they venture into the rural Yirgacheffe region of Ethiopia in 2009. The couple serves as ambassadors for World Vision Australia, an internationally recognized humanitarian aid organization that strives to empower communities to overcome poverty and improve their living standards. Having been loyal donors to the organization, the Jackmans desire to witness the tangible impact of their contributions firsthand. Upon their arrival in Yirgacheffe, Hugh meets Dukale, a resilient and determined 27-year-old coffee farmer, who has dedicated his life to elevating his family from poverty. Intrigued by Dukale's determination and dedication, Hugh decides to spend time on his farm to better comprehend the challenges faced by rural coffee farmers and the innovative solutions being implemented by World Vision. As Hugh becomes immersed in Dukale's daily life, he gains a deeper understanding of the complexities of fair trade coffee production. He discovers how World Vision's fair trade practices are not only enabling coffee farmers to earn a fair price for their produce but also facilitating their involvement in the entire production process. By engaging coffee farmers in every stage of production, from planting to harvesting, and ensuring they receive a significant portion of the income generated, fair trade practices empower farmers like Dukale to take control of their lives and their livelihoods. During his visit to Dukale's farm, Hugh is also introduced to clean cookstove technology, a critical innovation developed by World Vision to combat the pressing issue of indoor air pollution. In Ethiopia, many families rely on traditional cooking methods, which involve cooking over open fires, causing severe and long-term health problems, particularly among women and young children. The clean cookstove technology, developed in collaboration with local artisans and farmers, is designed to reduce indoor air pollution by emitting significantly less smoke and soot, thereby decreasing the risk of respiratory ailments and other related health issues. As Hugh learns more about Dukale's experiences and the World Vision initiatives, he becomes increasingly passionate about spreading the message of fair trade coffee and clean cookstove technology. With his growing appreciation for the work of World Vision, Hugh makes a renewed commitment to advocate for the organization's mission and to share Dukale's inspiring story with the world. Dukale's journey serves as a poignant reminder of the power of resilience and determination in the face of adversity. Through his unwavering dedication to his family and his farm, Dukale embodies the spirit of hope that defines the lives of countless rural communities around the world. As Hugh shares Dukale's story, he aims to inspire others to recognize the significant impact their actions can have on the lives of those less fortunate, thereby igniting a wave of change and improvement in communities across the globe.
