End of the World

Plot
In the 1991 sci-fi horror film 'End of Days,' directed by Peter Hyams, the world is threatened by an ancient prophecy and the arrival of an evil alien. The film stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Robin Tunney, CCH Pounder, and Charles Robinson. Father Pergado, played by Herb Dean, is a Jesuit priest who witnesses a man's unfortunate death after being caught in the middle of a car accident that occurs while being impaled on a construction crane. Shaken by the events, Pergado decides to take a break from his clerical duties and attends a spiritual retreat, where he seeks to find answers to life and his connection with the divine. However, things take a drastic turn when Father Pergado encounters an alien entity, who claims to be his spiritual double. The entity is an alien being from another world, who has an uncanny resemblance to Father Pergado due to his ability to duplicate the DNA and the physical appearance of other beings. The alien's purpose for taking on the form of Pergado is to prepare for its eventual plan to destroy the city of New York, an event that will bring about the apocalypse and herald the end of days. The alien entity, which has come to be known as Jericho (after the biblical city), has its own sinister motivations. Jericho's ultimate goal is to take over the world and bring about a new era of peace and prosperity by destroying the old world order. However, this vision of peace turns out to be a farce, with the actual motive behind the apocalypse being to bring an end to human existence altogether. The events of the movie unfold as Jericho, using Father Pergado's identity, begins to manipulate a select group of people to bring about chaos and destruction. As Jericho gains control over some of the people around Pergado, a woman named Jenny, played by Robin Tunney, appears to be the sole exception. Jenny, a former detective who has her own reasons for wanting to escape from her painful past, is somehow immune to Jericho's mind manipulation. As Pergado (played by Gabriel Byrne) becomes further entangled with the happenings, Jenny's presence becomes the key factor that could lead to the saving of the human world. Her immunity to the alien's mind control offers a glimmer of hope that could potentially stop Jericho's nefarious plans. However, with each passing event, it becomes increasingly evident that Jericho is gaining more control over those around him. Despite Pergado's attempts to understand the motivations behind Jericho's plans, it seems as though an end to humanity is inevitable. Pergado comes to realize that his own life, and those of the people he cares about, is now at risk due to the actions of his evil duplicate. The final showdown unfolds in the climactic events of the movie as Father Pergado, along with Jenny, must come to terms with the threat they face. They are left with no other choice but to devise a plan that might save humanity from certain annihilation. With only minutes to spare, Pergado and Jenny attempt a plan that is both desperate and ambitious, and with a stroke of luck, they manage to prevent the predicted end of the world. As the clock strikes the predicted hour of apocalypse, they manage to stop Jericho's attempt at global destruction, ensuring that civilization can survive another day. 'End of Days' offers an intriguing blend of elements combining sci-fi and horror, creating a movie that takes viewers on a thrilling ride filled with action, suspense, and the unknown.
