Fight or Flight

Plot

In the intense and thrilling action film Fight or Flight, a skilled mercenary named Ryder is hired to track down a high-value target on a commercial flight. The job seems straightforward enough, but things take a drastic turn when Ryder discovers that their target is a young woman named Victoria, who has inadvertently been targeted by a ruthless group of assassins. As Ryder and Victoria form an unlikely alliance, they find themselves in a desperate fight for survival. With the plane now filled with Victoria's would-be killers, Ryder and Victoria must use all their wits, skills, and cunning to protect themselves from the clutches of their enemies. From dodging bullets and disarming explosives to evading fistfights and fending off the passengers who have turned against them, Ryder and Victoria's adventure is filled with heart-pumping action and heart-stopping suspense. As the body count rises and the passenger list dwindles, Ryder must dig deeper to uncover the truth behind Victoria's target status and the sinister plot hatching in the shadows. Trapped in this high-stakes game of cat and mouse, Ryder will stop at nothing to keep Victoria safe, even if it means placing themselves in harm's way. As Ryder and Victoria battle their way through the plane, they slowly begin to form a bond, with Ryder finding themselves unexpectedly drawn to Victoria's bravery and determination. But with multiple factions vying for control of the aircraft, it's clear that Victoria's life hangs precariously in the balance. Can Ryder protect her long enough to figure out the reason behind the mayhem, or will the plane be a crash site of gruesome proportions? Throughout the film, director and cast manage to maintain high tension levels even as the screenplay provides intriguing details about Ryder's backstory and professional experience as a mercenary, Victoria's high-stakes work life as a 'corporate' worker, plus glimpses of the intricately plotted web of conspiracy tied to these individuals and individuals within it. At the center of the maelstrom, Ryder and Victoria's tenuous alliance allows us to glimpse both of their unique personalities and skills, making for some genuinely compelling dramatic character moments when these survival-focused individuals take the time to briefly reflect on what's truly important to them when they pause in the immediate chaos caused by their potential demise. Ryder, who initially dismisses emotion as a weakness until he comes to respect Victoria's courage, demonstrates both how ordinary people can be pushed the limits they long thought were beyond their capabilities. The cinematic choices in the movie also keep up the energy with a relentless tempo which only invites our hearts to stay firm against an exhausting sense that this ordeal might abruptly become the ultimate departure for both of our survival hopefuls.

The reasoning behind Ghost's actions is unbelievably lame, but aside from that, there are quite a few dark humor laughs to be had, and the action sequences are pretty satisfying, even if they look a bit painful.

How to rip off "John Wick" and "Bullet Train" on a budget while still maintaining a presentable facade? — Move the story onto an airplane! It sounds like a grand, spectacular production, but all it takes is building an interior set and filming all the narrow-space fight scenes entirely in a studio. They even forgo the quintessential airplane crash landing scene so common in this type of film, saving it for a possible sequel. The various flashy fight sequences are amusing enough, making effective use of the airplane's spatial characteristics. The significant involvement of everything from concealed weapons to chainsaws gives the film ample B-movie charm reminiscent of the "Three Flavours Cornetto" trilogy; it almost transforms into a full-blown exploitation flick of madmen battling it out. Josh Hartnett has aged remarkably well; it's like watching him grow up...

Definitely more entertaining than a high-speed train!

Wasn't expecting much from this low-budget flick, but it turned out to be surprisingly decent. It's like a bloodier, more violent, airborne version of Bullet Train. Josh Hartnett is perfectly cast for this kind of role. And seriously, with Josh wielding a chainsaw, isn't it time for him to star in a Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie?

Dumb but relaxing, especially when those characters who seem like mini-bosses appear. The build-up and hype are all there, making you think they're about to unleash some ultimate move, but then *poof* they're gone in an instant. That just cracks me up! There's this absurd feeling of "I'm supposed to be the main character in my own narrative, but I'm perfectly fine playing just a minor role in someone else's story." Overall, I feel like almost all the chit-chatty dialogue scenes could be cut. The fight scenes would be even better if they were more intense and extreme. I can only imagine how amazing a long-take fight scene in a confined plane space would be. A solid three-star flick.
