First Blood

Plot

In the midst of the 1970s, the United States was experiencing a shift in its social and cultural landscape. The era's anti-war protests and the lingering effects of the Vietnam War had left a scar on the nation, and its soldiers - many of whom were now civilians, trying to reintegrate into society - struggled to adjust. John Rambo, a former Green Beret, finds himself in the midst of this tumultuous time. A highly decorated and skilled operative, Rambo had left the army after only a brief stint, only to find himself lost and disillusioned in the civilian world. Rambo's story begins on a sunny day in the small town of Hope, Washington, where he is an enigmatic figure, shunned by the local residents. He is haunted by his memories of war, struggling to connect with the outside world and find purpose in his life. As he enters the local Sheriff's Department to collect some pension benefits, he is met with hostility and disrespect by the police officers. Officer Teasle, a Vietnam veteran turned lawman, notices Rambo's intimidating physique and mistakes him for a recent ex-con. This sparks a confrontation, and Rambo is arrested for vagrancy and taken to the local jail. As Rambo sits in his cell, he is subjected to the inhumane treatment of the officers, who use excessive force and mock his experiences in Vietnam. Feeling belittled and disrespected, Rambo breaks out of the cell, escaping into the nearby woods. With no clear destination in mind, he heads towards the dense forest of the nearby Cascades, his adrenaline-fueled anger fueling his determination to clear his name. The pursuit for Rambo begins in earnest as Sheriff Teasle and his Posse - consisting of local law enforcement and National Guardsmen - track him deep into the wilderness. Teasle, infuriated by the humiliation Rambo has dealt him, disregards the military trained operative's combat prowess and the haphazard terrain of the forest. He calls in specialists from the surrounding towns to aid in the search, a reckless decision that only leads to a long and deadly game of cat and mouse. As the sun begins to set, casting a golden glow across the dense woods, Rambo leads his pursuers on a thrilling and unconventional chase. With his Green Beret skills and his deep understanding of survival techniques, Rambo vanishes into the shadows, silently tracking the officers through the dense and murky forest. As Day transitions to night, and with his skills honed from years of combat and experience, Rambo orchestrates a series of ambushes and clever countermeasures against his relentless adversaries. At this point, it becomes evident that the town's and surrounding rural police are being led by those who underestimate Rambo. Eventually, however, they receive orders from those superior to Teasle's group. Even the U.S. military deems the operation to great risk. A team of more level-headed military instructors are sent to subdue Rambo. Despite his initial apprehension, Rambo's brutalization at the hands of the sheriff and subsequent realization of his situation imbue him with growing empathy for the inhabitants of the town and its poor officer-pursuers.

It's heartbreaking. As the saying goes, "In times of war, blood flows freely; in times of peace, every step is a struggle."

War should not be forgotten. While we cherish peace, we must also remember the painful price of war.

(8/10) Many people like to compare "First Blood" with "Wolf Warrior," but the themes of these two films are completely opposite. The biggest target of accusation in "First Blood" is precisely America itself. There is no intense excitement, only sorrow. No spirit of the "wolf warrior," only the trauma of war. No powerful motherland, only a motherland that doesn't love its own. Rambo has already been destroyed by the war and cannot return to a peaceful world. He is in pain, helpless, like an abandoned child. On the surface, the film seems to be about how Rambo keeps fighting back against American police, but the real main thread is the deep harm that war has inflicted on Rambo. War...
