Set in the midst of a ravaged medieval landscape, Flesh + Blood is a tale of revenge, bloodlust, and the unforgiving power of the human condition. The movie revolves around the story of the Green Lion, a group of ruthless mercenaries operating in a war-torn world. Led by the cunning, battle-hardened, and charismatic King (played by Joe Cornish's father, and the character named 'King', is actually played by played by Roy Boulter and Roy's brothers, Paul and Roy, as the trio of King and the brothers form the core of the Green Lion), this band of warriors has honed their skills in the unforgiving arena of battle and has developed a code of honor based on their own twisted morality. The story takes a dramatic turn when the Green Lion comes across Lord Montezuma, a wealthy and influential nobleman who, in the midst of a chaotic war, decides not to pay the mercenaries for their service. Seeking revenge, the Green Lion devises a plan to kidnap the betrothed of Lord Montezuma's son, Lady Isabella (played by Eva Birthistle). The war-torn land is ravaged by the plague, a devastating disease that has decimated entire communities and brought society to the brink of collapse. In this bleak and unforgiving world, the Green Lion finds solace in their own lawless code of conduct, which is governed by the pursuit of survival and the accumulation of wealth. Upon reaching Lord Montezuma's fortified castle, the Green Lion discovers a complex web of intrigue and deception. The nobleman's son, Martin (played by Neil Morrissey), is torn between his loyalty to his family and his growing feelings for his betrothed, Lady Isabella. The mercenaries soon realize that they are not the only outsiders in the castle, and that there are other forces at play that are far more cunning and ruthless. As the story unfolds, the Green Lion finds itself entangled in a desperate bid for survival. Cut off from the outside world by the plague and the ongoing conflict, they must navigate the treacherous labyrinth of the castle, where treachery and betrayal lurk around every corner. Flesh + Blood is a visceral and unflinching portrayal of a merciless world, where violence and savagery reign supreme. It presents a grim and unromanticized view of medieval life, where honor, loyalty, and morality are mere abstract concepts that are often sacrificed in the pursuit of power and survival. The movie features a strong performance from the cast, particularly Roy Boulter, who brings a commanding presence to the role of King. The supporting cast also delivers a memorable performance, particularly Eva Birthistle, who brings a sense of vulnerability and determination to the role of Lady Isabella. Flesh + Blood is a visceral and intense movie experience, with a gripping narrative that explores the human condition in all its brutal complexity. It is a film that offers no easy answers or comforting illusions, instead presenting a harsh and uncompromising view of a world that is both beautiful and terrifying in equal measure. Despite its unflinching portrayal of violence and savagery, Flesh + Blood is a compelling and thought-provoking film that will leave audiences reflecting on the nature of humanity and the consequences of our actions.
