Freakier Friday

Plot
Freaky Friday is a 2021 American fantasy comedy film, a remake of the 2003 film of the same name, based on the 1976 novel of the same name by Mary Rodgers. The magical events that changed the lives of Tess Coleman and her mother, Annie, many years ago are once again recreated in the lives of two new generations of women. The story unfolds as we meet Anna Marks, a successful businesswoman whose daughter, Ellie, is preparing for college, while Anna also has to deal with the complexities of integrating two families when she marries her fiancé, Jim, a widower with a teenage daughter of her own named Kate. At the center of the chaos that ensues with the two families coming together, is the relationship between Ellie, Anna's daughter, and Kate, Jim's daughter. They are complete opposites, from their personalities to their interests. Ellie is a high-achieving student, outgoing, and confident in her academic pursuits, while Kate is a bit of a rebel, a free spirit who is more interested in art and her own sense of self-expression. They instantly clash, and Anna often finds herself torn between wanting to support her daughter's high academic ambitions and understanding her stepsister's desire to forge her own path. Tess Coleman, played by Linda Cardellini in the 2003 film, was the mother of Anna Coleman, played by Jamie Lee Curtis, and was transformed overnight into her 17-year-old daughter by an unexpected and inexplicable force. Many years have passed, and in this new version of the movie, we are reintroduced to Anna, now played by Heidi Glow, who was also transformed by a similar magical force into her own mother, but this time, it's Kate, played by Chloe Bailey, who switches bodies with her mother, played by Liza Koshy. Anna soon realizes that the circumstances under which she was transformed into her mother have repeated themselves in the lives of her daughter and her stepsister. Ellie and Kate, despite their differences, also seem to have inherited the magic that allowed Tess and Anna to switch bodies all those years ago, suggesting that some incidents and experiences in life pass down or get recycled in families over time. Anna can't help but recall the transformative experience she had when she was switched with her mother and is determined to learn as much as she can from her own experiences to guide her daughter and her stepsister as they deal with their new predicament. As Kate navigates her mother's body, Anna must adapt to life as a teenager once again. Just like when she was in her daughter's body, she is trying to figure out this completely alien world where she can't relate to anyone, is baffled by social media, and worries about high school drama. However, she brings an adult's perspective to these experiences and becomes an exceptional source of wisdom for her daughter and her stepsister. At the same time, Kate tries to understand her mother's world and becomes fiercely protective of her and her family, demonstrating maturity beyond her years. Ellie and Kate must work together to solve the mystery behind their magical switch and to figure out a way to reverse it. They undergo various transformations as they navigate different roles in their lives, learning valuable lessons about family, acceptance, and the importance of understanding different perspectives. As the body-switting progresses, they move closer together, and their initial animosity turns into genuine friendship.

The fact that there's a sequel is already pretty mind-blowing.

Okay, here's a translation that captures the sentiment of wanting a makeover, with a touch of longing, appropriate for a film review: "In a lifetime, is a glow-up too much to ask?"

In addition to the original leading ladies, they've also added the star of Never Have I Ever! 😄

Filming officially kicked off on June 25th! Things are definitely different now... but I'll still be supporting it when it comes out.
