Garfield

Plot
Garfield, the iconic cat created by Jim Davis, has been the heart of a beloved comic strip and animated franchise for decades. The live-action/CGI film adaptation, released in 2004, brings the lovable feline to life in a new and humorous way. The movie follows the everyday life of Garfield, a charming, yet lazy and incredibly heavy cat, who resides with his owner Jon Arbuckle, a cartoonist at the local newspaper. Garfield's life is simple, revolving around his love for lasagna, napping, and mocking his owner's single life. However, everything changes when Jon decides to adopt a dog named Odie, with the intention of impressing his old high school crush, Dr. Liz Wilson, the town's veterinarian. Garfield's life is turned upside down as he faces the unfamiliar presence of a new competitor for Jon's attention. The dog, despite his well-meaning nature, poses a significant threat to Garfield's authority and way of life. Garfield, usually a laid-back feline, is put into a state of panic, primarily because his laid-back routine has been disrupted. As the story progresses, scenes of comic genius unfold as Garfield plots, schemes, and reacts to his new canine nemesis, with his signature wit and sarcasm. At times, the feline acts childish and obnoxious but deep down, there's an undeniable trait of Garfield to protect Jon and the life he loves. In the midst of this struggle between Garfield and Odie, Jon gets the chance to impress Dr. Liz, who has come to see if Jon can help her care for a pair of orphan puppies. However, things don't go as smoothly as Jon had anticipated, as a series of unfortunate events unfolds. The scenes featuring Dr. Liz provide an interesting side storyline, as Jon's deep affection for the veterinarian slowly surfaces. This side plot also adds to the comedy as Garfield often gets caught watching the veterinarian from afar, providing comedic relief at Jon's expense. One key moment in the film arrives when Jon takes Dr. Liz, Odie, and Garfield on a trip to the vet. In a turn of events, he reveals his feelings to Dr. Liz through a song. Although, unfortunately for Jon, it takes a wrong direction in the movie at certain factors making him lose Dr. Liz. In its typical fashion, Garfield lets Jon down in the worst possible way leading Jon into terrible misunderstandings. While Jon is heartbroken after losing Dr. Liz at first – mainly in terms of her time in relation to his thoughts, overall it leads Jon to see Odie as an actual family member. Garfield eventually learns that having a family member in Odie does not have to be about competition for Jon's love and attention. Odie doesn't become the family member he ends up loving and Garfield becomes much more affectionate when Odie isn't there. The movie reaches its climax with Garfield having a change of heart when he comes to the realization that Jon still cares about him deeply and above all else. In one of the film's final scenes, the image of Jon, with both Garfield and Odie, starts to represent Garfield in his first real family form when Odie ends up eating Jon's lasagna, another comedic aspect during the final show-down between humans and animals and animals competing then finally gives way, which actually has Garfield embracing Odie like never before but in doing this really begins to open his eyes to what a family really is and means.
