Gremlins

Gremlins

Plot

In the quaint suburban town of Kingston Falls, it's Christmas, and for 12-year-old Billy Peltzer, it's shaping up to be a holiday he'll never forget. Out of the kindness of his father's heart, the Peltzer family is gifted a Mogwai, a strange-looking creature with a penchant for cute, furry, and gentle nature. The Mogwai, later revealed to be a Mogwai named Gizmo, quickly wins the hearts of the entire Peltzer clan, but Billy forms a special bond with the little creature. Gizmo is, however, subject to a set of rules that Billy's father had to explain to him before gifting the creature. Firstly, Mogwai can't tolerate direct sunlight, secondly, they hate water, and lastly, they definitely can't be exposed to any form of moisture or darkness for over four minutes. These rules are crucial in maintaining the friendly nature of the Mogwai and preventing any catastrophes. On Christmas evening, while cleaning up the post-dinner mess, Billy accidentally exposes Gizmo to water while washing the plate with it. This seemingly simple action has huge consequences as it seems to awaken some dormant powers in Gizmo. During this chaos, Gizmo spawns, and to Billy's horror, his entire room is now a mess of little Mogwai. Billy is initially thrilled with the idea of having multiple Mogwai, thinking that Gizmo's friends can be easily trained. But he couldn't be further from the truth as he soon finds out that washing one's hands after handling a Mogwai is extremely important. When Billy isn't looking, Randall Peltzer, Billy's father, reveals to his friends that he bought the Mogwai, Gizmo, from a store in New York City for only $6.98. They quickly deduce that more people might be selling Mogwai without them realizing its powers of reproduction. They can't just quietly follow this lead, thinking that just owning a couple of Mogwai in their home might prevent major issues. But things spiral out of control, when a small shop owner Mr. Kingston accidentally gets dragged into the new world and starts buying Mogwai in anticipation of them attracting more and more customers with their magical allure, which results in his shop being overrun by Mogwai, more so after Mr. Kingston breaks the other 2 non-water based rules under immense pressure. As the legend goes, Mr. Kingston was a small underdog who lived a poor life. A terrible mess is unfolding as gremlins start popping up all over Kingston Falls. Mischievous creatures, spawned from a previous breaking of the 'rules', have been terrorizing the town, unleashing mayhem and destruction in all directions. They wreak havoc on everything, from causing great fires to complete mayhem on the entire streets of Kingston. Realizing that the creature they so lovingly obtained is actually a source of their destruction, the once frightened residents now join forces to manage the disaster. Some desperate attempts are made to destroy the creatures, and by witnessing the horror that these creatures can unleash, a small shop owner turned into an out law when it comes to eradicating the gremlins or stop them from turning the town into complete disaster, leading to several chaotic confrontations. In an attempt to start anew, the residents of Kingston Falls, are now driven into desperation as they join forces in a forceful rebellion. Thus making a chaotic face from the once idyllic community. This desperation unfolds severely with the help of local resident Randall Peltzer, who unleashes a fear about facing the fearsome Mogwai as every individual of the community faces a reality that the thing they most loved ended up playing its opposite role. Not until a dramatic scene unfolds, in which Billy Peltzer's village almost encounters complete disruption from all chaos would they be averted from disaster only when a pure-hearted force of a brave man makes a gesture that possibly means everyone can begin recovering very much unnoticed like two town members realize, its probably possible if not getting caught.
