Hackers

Plot

Hackers tells the story of two young protagonists, Acid Burn (played by Angelina Jolie) and Zero Cool (played by Jonny Lee Miller), who are computer wizards in their own right. The tale begins with Zero, known for his incredible speed and skill in typing, being busted by the US Secret Service for hacking into the Pentagon's computer system to pay for a video game using the money in a bank account belonging to a high-ranking military officer. Zero's impressive speed allowed him to navigate the system quickly and avoid getting caught by the system's internal security, but in the process, he attracted the attention of the authorities. After spending eight months in juvenile detention, Zero is released, albeit with restrictions. He is forbidden from accessing a computer for a year and a half. His friends, Acid Burn, Cereal Killed the Dog (played by Matt Damon), and Ergo (played by Laurence Mason), welcome him back, but Zero's newfound freedom is short-lived. His friends convince him to participate in a hacking competition, where they engage in a high-speed keyboard duel with a rival group led by the enigmatic Phreak (played by Robert Wisdom). Intrigued by their rival, Ergo discovers that the computer system used in the competition belongs to a company called Daedelus, led by the mysterious and manipulative Dade (played by Jude Law). Ergo uncovers a cryptic message left by Dade, which hints at a nefarious plot involving a computer virus. Zero and his friends soon find themselves entangled in a web of intrigue, as they are pursued by both the US Secret Service, determined to catch them violating their ban on computers, and Dade, the mastermind behind the virus. As the story unfolds, Zero learns that Acid Burn is, in fact, Kate Libby, a member of the FBI who infiltrated the hacking community to gather information. Initially, Zero is skeptical of her motives, but he gradually comes to trust her, and together they work to uncover the truth behind the virus. Dade is revealed to be the mastermind behind the nefarious plot, using the virus to disrupt the global economy. The cat-and-mouse game escalates as Zero, Kate, and their friends evade the Secret Service, while also delving deeper into the world of computer hacking. Ergo, Cereal, and Doozer (played by Fisher Stevens) work on creating backdoors in the Daedelus system, allowing Zero and Kate to access sensitive computer files. Phreak, too, emerges as an unexpected ally, who helps the group in their quest to expose Dade's plan. In a thrilling finale, Zero, Kate, and their team face off against Dade in a high-stakes showdown. Using their computer skills to stay one step ahead of their pursuers, they track down the virus's source and eventually foil Dade's plan, exposing him and his accomplices. Zero and Kate, now romantically involved, find a way to use their unique skills to outmaneuver the authorities and avoid further punishment. The movie Hackers, released in 1995, offers a thrilling and fast-paced tale of computer hacking, set against a backdrop of high-tech intrigue and cybercrime. With its unique blend of style, wit, and youthful energy, it has become a cult classic among hackers and film enthusiasts alike.
