Hellboy

Plot
In the midst of a apocalyptic world on the brink of destruction, Hellboy, a demon-raised being, must put his heroic efforts to the test as he journeys to the farthest reaches of England to confront an ancient evil that threatens to bring about the end times. This gripping tale of magic, action, and self-discovery follows Hellboy as he battles against the forces of darkness, all while struggling to maintain his own sense of identity and purpose. The film begins with Hellboy's arrival in England, a far cry from his initial landing in New York City where he first made a name for himself as an unlikely superhero. On this new front, he finds himself teamed up with Agent Thompson and a team of MI-6 agents who are desperate for the demon's unique skills in fighting against evil. Their quest initially leads them to a mystical tome hidden deep within the abbey of Westminster, where the agency believes to have uncovered a crucial clue to their ongoing battle against the forces of darkness. However, unbeknownst to Hellboy, the agent's leader, a gruff yet honest individual, has other intentions. It leads them into trouble. The reason behind this is a centuries-old rivalry between the mythical Blood Queen, Nimue, and Lady Bathory of Bathory's family, yet to be explained fully through the narrative and whose history of sorcery and brutality is too well known across Europe. Stolbre by hand and head by dragon to the enchanted pools, a battle-worn warrior is returned from death, resurrected by an unholy marriage - and one that has a pivotal role in the destruction of Camelot too: where great prophecies seemed correct about such a force arriving that threatened the end of the mighty kingdom of their day. It seemed to bring about a foretold destruction; although upon close examination, all this went straight against the grain. Years of battle raged intensely in combat across the cold forests, fierce battles for pure dominance had seemed quite routine at the time; however there, on that blood-soaked heath, an unseen force played an unforeseen turning in the blood, far the time of great foretelling said not a threat against the destined realms, as heralded in by the time Merlin foretold so direly thus as Nimue left; a prophecy spoke of destruction unfolding its pages... but just between Lady Bathory and her unflinching wrath she remains... not a demon after all. She may have had help finally from the once-ruthless witch hunter that she met one gloomy, yet enigmatic night, when she led him astray with enchantment she so conveniently performed on him very well. Now that secret her demonic nemesis knows a little too well it simply wasn't true. Merlin would also tell of other battles; and Nimue, as it is well alleged in this world of lore, the Blood Queen Nimue, fathom back centuries, possibly more indeed - Nimue is also alive. In an otherworldly twist of fate, she is found, where the power of prophecy hints at just before another so epic battle unfold that the known good and pure blood would spill across barren England. Now over the land yet destined future to ravage England within blood-stained hills in England's earth, she begins making clear her intent, that Hellboy is perhaps the lone possible means of curbing that. A legendary apocalyptic force that nothing however so much as to resist is determined by old legends that simply seem to provide us meaning today.

Hellboy feels surprisingly ordinary... lacking any truly special abilities. The movie primarily focuses on a chaotic mix of Southern American witchcraft and other bizarre elements.

Brian Taylor's gritty and bizarre style is still there, turning a superhero movie into a batshit crazy horror flick. It seems like he's added a touch of William Faulkner-esque Southern atmosphere. Overall, it's... ugly. The idea is good, but the execution is just so awkward.

Anyone with a functioning brain can see that Adeline Rudolph is being blatantly propped up by her financial backers, right? They leveraged the Hellboy IP and Jefferson White from Yellowstone (whose character arc was the most complete and compelling, no less) just to prop her up and shield her from any exposure or criticism. What's the justification for that kind of preferential treatment? And Brian Taylor, the director – what's his real track record? His highest-rated work, Crank, clearly benefited from Mark Neveldine's significant involvement, and he merely got co-director credit. Can we even call this a film? This is just a live-action cutscene from a mediocre video game...

Gotta watch the whole series, no matter how bad it gets.

Considering how low-budget this movie is, Hellboy can't even afford his cigars anymore and has to settle for cigarettes. Someone get our guy a Cohiba!
