Plot

In the 2021 romantic comedy film He's All That, a Netflix original movie, Padgett Sawyer is a popular high school student and social media influencer living a seemingly perfect life. She has a close-knit group of friends, an impressive number of followers on social media, and a charming boyfriend who appears to genuinely adore her. However, when Padgett breaks up with her boyfriend, Nolan, in exchange for the attention of a new and attractive suitor, she inadvertently reveals to her ex-boyfriend the true nature of her relationship. Devastated by this unexpected turn of events, Nolan begins to sabotage Padgett's reputation. He posts about her real personality online, revealing that she is shallow and manipulative. This public expose devastates Padgett as her reputation is ruined, and she is shunned by her former friends. As a result, she vows to take revenge on Nolan and regain her social standing. To do so, Padgett decides on a peculiar revenge plan by offering Camila Campos, an unpopular but genuine classmate of hers, a deal. Padgett offers to transform Camila into the Prom King and give her a makeover, not just physically but also socially, in exchange for Camila's efforts in making Nolan jealous. Padgett's intentions might come across as cruel at first, but as she delves into Camila's life, she starts to see a different side of the girl. Despite being an outsider, Camila's genuine personality shines through, and Padgett begins to appreciate her qualities. As the two girls begin to bond over their individual struggles, Camila's makeover starts to take shape. Padgett gives her a makeover that includes a stunning transformation, helping her to stand out in high school and eventually earning the admiration of her peers and even her crush. The movie progresses as Padgett, with the help of Camila, starts to create a false narrative about their supposed friendship and romance. In a series of staged posts and photos, Padgett and Camila depict their fabricated relationship, which slowly starts to attract attention from schoolmates and even Nolan. As the fake romance between Padgett and Camila gains momentum, Padgett's revenge plan starts to falter. Camila, having undergone a genuine transformation with her makeover and newfound popularity, begins to grow and develop her own interests and friendships. Meanwhile, Nolan starts to feel increasingly uneasy as his attempt to sabotage Padgett's reputation backfires and leads to an unexpected development: he develops genuine feelings for Camila. In the climax of the movie, Camila makes a pivotal decision that highlights her growth as a character. Despite knowing that the fake romance might jeopardize her friendship with Padgett and her newfound popularity, she chooses to expose the truth about their relationship and break off the charade. This courageous move allows both girls to start a genuine friendship based on mutual respect and understanding. However, Camila also takes the opportunity to set the record straight about Padgett's past actions, revealing the true nature of her character. Nolan, having witnessed Camila's transformation, also realizes his mistake in sabotaging Padgett's reputation. Despite the challenges that lie ahead for both girls, they learn valuable lessons about self-acceptance, authenticity, and genuine relationships.
