Home for Rent

Plot

As the sun sets over the small town of Willow Creek, Sarah Jenkins welcomes a new group of tenants into her home, hoping to find some sense of community and companionship after a painful divorce. Little does she know, her latest renters are members of a mysterious and sinister cult, known only as "The Order." At first, Sarah is charmed by the charismatic leader, Father Michael, and his devoted followers. They seem like an ordinary family, albeit with a slightly unusual devotion to their faith. But as the days pass, Sarah begins to notice strange and unsettling occurrences around her home. Doors slam shut on their own, and disembodied whispers echo through the halls at night. As Sarah's unease grows, she starts to investigate the true nature of The Order, only to uncover a dark history of human sacrifice and mind control. She soon realizes that she has unknowingly become entangled in a web of terror, as Father Michael and his followers begin to conspire against her. Desperate to escape the clutches of this malevolent cult, Sarah turns to her estranged husband, Mark, for help. Together, they hatch a plan to expose The Order's sinister intentions and put an end to their evil plans. But as they dig deeper, they realize that the line between reality and madness is thinning, and that the true horror may be lurking within themselves. As the stakes grow higher, Sarah finds herself trapped in a desperate game of survival, where she must confront her deepest fears and the true face of evil to escape the clutches of The Order. Will she be able to outsmart these fanatical followers and reclaim her home, or will they succeed in their twisted plans to sacrifice her?

It's not terrible, but quite disappointing. There aren't any truly scary moments, and the plot twists are predictable and cliché. My sympathy was all with the dog from the start. Feels like an anti-marriage, anti-kids propaganda piece.

Let me tell you, joining a cult isn't a walk in the park. You even have to set a 3:45 AM alarm to chant spells...

Came for the family, folklore, and cult themes, but left disappointed. It doesn't hold a candle to "The Wailing" or "Incantation," and the quality isn't even on par with "The Medium." The use of a Rashomon-style perspective is a refreshing idea for a horror film, but it ultimately backfires. No matter how sophisticated your narrative techniques or how meticulously you handle the emotional and ethical lines, this is still a horror movie... Apart from that one jumpscare in the mother's perspective (and it's the most basic and direct kind), where else is it scary? After two hours, I'm still wondering what exactly I was watching...

You thought I'd be touched by the profound fatherly love? I just want to rant about how unbelievably stupid and useless this father is.
