Hotel Artemis

Plot
In a desolate future Los Angeles, June 21st, 2028, the city teeters on the brink of chaos as riots engulf the streets. Amidst the turmoil, a haven exists in an unlikely place – the Artemis, a dilapidated hotel perched in an upscale location, inaccessible to the riot-scarred below. The hotel's penthouse level is home to a clandestine hospital, a secret sanctuary operated by the enigmatic Nurse, her name synonymous with mercy, discretion, and unmatched medical expertise. This is Hotel Artemis, a realm where the wounded and the desperate come to heal, but where the line between compassion and calculation is blurred. On this fateful night, the Nurse, played by Jodie Foster, is thrust into a maelstrom of conflicting loyalties and allegiances. Her hospital is a refuge for the city's most hardened criminals, and yet, it is also a fragile ecosystem that she has carefully constructed to maintain a semblance of order in a world gone mad. Her patients, a mix of thieves, assassins, and other assorted denizens of the underworld, bring their unique brand of chaos to the penthouse. Among the latest arrivals is a charismatic and cunning thief named Waikiki (Sylvester Stallone), who has a history with the Nurse and her world. His presence awakens old memories and raises concerns, not least because he has brought with him a mysterious and deadly package. As tensions escalate, the Nurse finds herself navigating the complex web of alliances and rivalries that govern this strange community. Waikiki's arrival is followed by that of a ruthless and cunning hitman, Everest (Jeffrey Wright), who is determined to collect a debt from the Thief. Everest is a man with no qualms about shedding blood to achieve his objectives, and his presence sets off a chain reaction of violence and power struggles within the penthouse. The Nurse is caught in the middle, struggling to maintain her hospital's fragile equilibrium while also protecting her patients from the very predators she is meant to serve. Compounded by the arrival of a young woman with a scar on her neck, Everest quickly sets out after Waikiki. Throughout this tense showdown, the Nurse is forced into difficult choices that test her values and her resolve. She is caught between her obligation to heal and protect those in her care, and her growing unease with the ever-increasing violence that threatens to consume them all. As events spiral out of control, secrets about the hospital's true purpose and the motivations of its patrons begin to surface. Behind the scenes, it becomes clear that the true mastermind behind the chaos is Niccola Sang, owner of the Artemis hotel and the city's most influential figure. His involvement and influence raise questions about the extent of the Nurse's autonomy and the true intentions of the hospital. Meanwhile, as the Nurse navigates the chaos below, Waikiki and Everest are locked in an intense standoff, their fates intertwined by a shared history of violence and bloodshed. Their complicated past has come full circle, with each seeking revenge and redress for past injustices. Against this complex backdrop, the enigmatic Nurse must choose which side to take and what moral compromises to make in order to salvage what little she can from the wreckage of her delicate ecosystem. Throughout this gripping narrative, Hotel Artemis expertly explores the complex interstices between good and evil, the boundaries that separate healers from predators, and the resilience that enables those most vulnerable to rise above their circumstances. Ultimately, it presents a haunting vision of a Los Angeles beset by decay and division, where those who survive only by their wits and resourcefulness will do whatever it takes to stay one step ahead of the chaos.
