I originally just put it on as background noise during meals, but I unexpectedly got hooked and watched it all the way through. I finally understand the beauty of Zhang Ziyi and the handsomeness of Takeshi Kaneshiro. Sure, it has its share of plot holes, but the merits outweigh the flaws. I think a 5.6 rating is way too low.

There's a disturbingly visceral need to tear down Zhang Yimou amongst certain domestic critics.

While I'm not a fan of Spielberg, the fact that he reportedly cried for an hour after watching it makes me want to become one.

Zhang Ziyi is stunning in her historical costume, and the dance sequences are definitely a highlight of the film – absolutely breathtaking! The cast is full of very talented actors, though the plot is a little…(leaving the thought open ended)
