Xie Miao's action scenes definitely earn him a place among young actors today. It's a shame the script is so cliché: the invincible protagonist, acts of chivalry, rescuing the damsel, and a comeback from the brink are all rather uninspired. The forced sentimentality at the end is also unnecessary. However, the discussion on the "necessity of upholding justice" is commendable, and it attempts a simple dissection of human nature.

Okay, here's the translation, aiming for a tone suitable for a film review emphasizing the action and historical elements: Review for *Ip Man: The Awakening* (2021) The action choreography is decent. The film features a Black boxer, Bartitsu, the "piglet" trade, the cost of justice, rickshaw gangs, a public martial arts challenge, and a hostage situation. It involves Hong Kong, British colonial elements, and crimes against women reminiscent of *Boss Lady* (2021). The poster’s fonts resemble “Om” characters. There is a storyline involving Ip Man’s master, Chan Wah-shun.

Okay, here's the translation focusing on portraying the reviewer's perspective: Only scoring this for the fight choreography and action sequences, which I thought were decent. As for the plot and acting? No clue what was going on. Skipped through most of it, just tuned in for the fight scenes.

One star for Xie Miao, and one for filling in Ip Man's youth timeline. That's about it. According to research, Ip Man was sent to Hong Kong at the age of 16. At 23, he studied at St. Stephen's College with his cousins before a brief, unsuccessful attempt to study in Japan. He then returned to Foshan to marry Zhang Yongcheng. There’s a lot of potential for storytelling in that period, but unfortunately, the screenwriter wasn't willing to put in the effort. They resorted to two extremely clichéd plotlines: "rescuing trafficked women" and "fighting foreigners." These kinds of storylines are practically worn out in martial arts films, offering nothing new. The scenes clearly indicate it was filmed in a film studio, lacking Hong Kong flavor but heavy on Shanghai vibes – I thought Ip Man had gone to Shanghai…
