Kill Bill: Vol. 2

Plot

Kill Bill: Vol. 2 picks up where the first installment left off, with Beatrix 'Black Mamba' Kiddo, or The Bride, finally reunited with her daughter, B.B. Still fueled by a burning desire for revenge, she has seven names on a Death List of those who attempted to kill her and her unborn child on her wedding day, an event that had been orchestrated by Bill, her former lover and the leader of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad (DVAS). Kiddo's quest leads her to a strip club where she encounters Vernita Green, aka Copperhead, one of her former colleagues, who The Bride believes has retired and moved on to a suburban life with her family. However, it becomes apparent that Copperhead is keeping the truth of her past from her daughter, Nikki, who is struggling to find her place within her own life. In her effort to leave her past behind, Copperhead hesitated in leaving the squad, and as a result, chose to attack Kiddo in private. Kiddo allows Vernita this chance to say goodbye and to explain to her daughter, but inevitably unmasks Copperhead's true past and provides Nikki with the truth, and then takes Copperhead's life in accordance with her original goals. Upon completing this task, Kiddo next sets her sights on Budd, the brother of Bill and a co-leader within the DVAS. His persona is developed as more than an assassin; Rather, Budd's shown to be a member of a loving family with a teenage son named Sidewinder. In an attempt to preserve his familial bond at any cost and even after years of maintaining that 'family tie' he sets out against, Kiddo spares his son's life but executes Budd after a brutal struggle, which teaches Kiddo the consequences of even a hint of hesitance in her missions. The next stop on Kiddo's itinerary brings her to Esteban Vihaio, commonly known as Billy — his one-time apprentice. Kiddo sees Billy and his beautiful partner, as a perfect family still yet having memories of their youthful violence and love for their life of crime. She understands Billy is still hurt by his own past while trying to live on, but all that matters to Kiddo at this point is completing her mission. When fighting against Kiddo and Esteban, Esteban gets his throat slit while saving Kiddo's life. Kiddo allows Esteban's actions to speak for themselves as she takes the final blow. Her mission now halved, Kill Bill sets her sights on O-ren Ishii, another former DVAS member. Kiddo finds O-ren, a Japanese assassin living under the name O-Ren, and in revenge she turns the tables. With an unexpected mixture of vengeance and sportsmanship, The Bride mercilessly fights O-Ren after initially dodging O-Ren's deadly attacks, giving O-Ren and her crew an experience of their brutal past. According to her rules, which is carried throughout her journey, Kill Bill doesn't show compassion and continues her hunt. She dispatches the entire crew with an awe-inspiring finish and later puts an end to O-Ren's life in a peaceful manner due to O-Ren understanding her former status as victims in DVAS. With only one adversary standing in her way, The Bride heads out to confront and kill The actual head of the DVAS: the enigmatic figure of Mr. Blonde's old comrade, The Gogo Yubari killer, O-Ren's arch nemesis and the rival - of a fallen adversary to be, in her past. However, it is later revealed that Bill has one more trick up his sleeve – a wheelchair-bound Bill. Kiddo tries to fight the wheelchair- bound Bill but his health is not what it used to be when he and Kiddo first fell in love. Having put behind Kiddo's past experiences, and the cruelty experienced by Kiddo as well as the numerous 'assassin lives' taken, Bill makes sense and reflects as he has come to realize that "You're not ready, Kiddo". Bill finally discloses the truth about her injury and about his and Kiddo's unborn child. Owing to this revelation, Beatrix Kiddo realises she had let her urge for revenge guide her the whole time. She does end up sparing Bill but now she wants to live for her child so that it might not lose its rightful father. Filling up the uncompleted request within her to end her journey - having only decided one more case at a time - Beatrix Kiddo tracks down Bill who he was last seen in the countryside. In the forest, Kiddo finds that she could in fact kill Bill but is overwhelmed and begins to weep for having spent the final act of her life being driven by only revenge. In the aftermath of her quest for vengeance finally fulfilled, Beatrix Kiddo (her life cut in the very last act) is shown staying in the countryside with her husband playing a role of dutiful father and to begin as a full-time house husband and devoted father respectively with The Black Mamba.
