Kraven the Hunter

Plot
Kraven the Hunter is a 2023 superhero thriller film that delves into the tumultuous backstory of Sergei Kravinoff, also known as Kraven the Hunter, a notorious and cunning predator with an unrelenting thirst for the hunt. The film takes the audience through the troubled early years of Kraven, tracing the roots of his obsession and the events that forged him into one of the most feared hunters in the world. The story begins with Kraven living with his ruthless gangster father, Nikolai, a merciless crime lord who has no qualms about using violence to get what he wants. Nikolai is the embodiment of power and intimidation, leaving a lasting impression on his son. As a child, Kraven looks up to his father with a mix of admiration and fear, struggling to reconcile the harsh realities of his world with the fantasy of heroism that he is drawn to. Kraven's sense of disillusionment grows as he witnesses the brutal side of his father's empire. Nikolai, who sees Kraven as a means to further his own interests, takes great pleasure in demoralizing his son and turning him into a cold-blooded instrument of his own making. When Nikolai attempts to use Kraven in one of his underhanded business dealings, Kraven begins to realize the connection between his own anger and the world that his father has created. Kraven becomes fixated on understanding where his father's brutal nature comes from and seeks out motivation to distance himself from it. He starts befriending other outcasts and social misfits who join him in exploring their frustrations and setting individual goals. However, when he goes missing while exploring the underground fighting world, this perceived rebellion against his father meets abrupt ends as Nikolai takes over the child and redirects his anger. Upon his return home, Kraven becomes overwhelmed with his newfound ambition of tracking down and defeating the ruthless mastermind, Ulysses Klaw. The loss of a close fellow hunter, Varona, serves as a pivotal catalyst that validates the inherent hunt and pushes Kraven into the dark path that he would follow for years. On the condition that Klaw would provide him information on the whereabouts of the prize he's after, Kraven forms an unlikely alliance with his unlikely adversary. Kraven embarks on a path of cold-blooded calculation and focused psychological combat, targeting the master of teeth – the larger-than-life, Ulysses Klaw. As he stalks his prey, Kraven puts aside any shred of sanity he ever had left, sinking deeper into the very darkness that has always haunted him. His increasingly self-disorgansed agenda sees him question if revenge truly matters in a world of predators, and if this endless quest would find him closer to becoming one of its most feared hunters. In the climactic showdown between Kraven and Ulysses Klaw, the very definition of what a 'hunter' truly is comes into question. While Kraven remains at the peak of his powers, his quest ultimately fuels nothing but a recurring cycle of violence and retribution, pushing him toward the very emotional turmoil that once drove him down his dark path. Unsurprisingly, in a narrative that stays consistent with its subject matter, Kraven seems no closer to change by the end, in fact, he has become him, reflecting years of learning and witnessing what was eventually predicted by a teacher or two.

It's actually a bit better than *Madame Web* or *Morbius*. The action sequences and the gore are the highlights, along with the reveal of Aaron's identity. Beyond that, there's not much else to it. The plot is clichéd and uninteresting, the villains are basically just there to fill space, and the pacing is a bit slow.

Okay, here's the translation of the review into English, aiming for a tone that aligns with film commentary: "This feels like a male, superpowered revenge fantasy, echoing elements of films like 'Kick-Ass'. It's good to see Quicksilver with a new hairdo back at work, even attempting a helicopter stunt, proving he would've made a great Captain America. The actor's physique and looks are so impressive, you can imagine him admiring himself in the mirror shirtless, then pondering why his superhero movie, just getting started, is already being cut short."

Is this a script written by actual humans?

The script's roughness and arbitrary settings are still unavoidable, especially the villains are laughable: Rhino takes drugs to become physically strong because the actor felt looked down upon by Kraven's father, and he's such a naive character; but he's afraid of pain in his human form and the transformation takes time, so he needs protection. The injection marks are too obvious and leave exploitable weaknesses, so legendary... Mister Glasses too, during the informant scene, he has a gun, and the other party is defenseless, but he insists on taking off his glasses to count first. And thinking about the ending from the perspective of Kraven's love interest, after seeing him pacing back and forth like a madman, she silently shoots an arrow at him, legendary...

"Kraven the Hunter" is confirmed as the final film in Sony's Spider-Man Universe. Six years, six movies building a Spider-Man Universe, and Spider-Man never once showed up for the grand finale. But then again, wife cakes don't have wives, head rice doesn't have heads,煲仔饭 (claypot rice) doesn't have kids in it, and my wallet doesn't have money. So, a Spider-Man Universe without Spider-Man? Doesn't seem all that strange.
