Love Lies Bleeding

Plot
Love Lies Bleeding is a 2023 neo-noir romantic thriller that kicks off with Lou, a stunningly quiet and enigmatic reclusive gym manager, whose isolation from the world seems more of a requirement than a preference. Set against the gaudy landscape of a rundown industrial complex transformed into a makeshift fitness center, Lou appears content with his mundane existence. However, a delicate disruption occurs when a determined bodybuilder named Jackie storms into his life. What's striking about Jackie is her infectious enthusiasm and unwavering ambition – an ambition instilled in her by her dead mother. A former boxer, Jackie sees bodybuilding as a means to extend her mother's legacy, to honor her memory by winning competitions. To better understand the depth of her mother's pursuit, Jackie seeks out the expertise of Lou, who strangely finds himself inexplicably drawn to this tenacious young woman. As their connection grows, so does a powerful attraction that pushes beyond just a trainer-student dynamic. Meanwhile, Jackie's plans are temporarily sidetracked when she gets a winning ticket in a local pub. The $75,000 windfall briefly allures her, but she eventually determines to use this sudden financial boon to aid in her dream, instead shifting focus on achieving bodybuilding success through the Las Vegas competitions that aim to launch her to greater fame. Along for the ride is Lou who, unwilling to break free from his world, starts to dream anew with a fervor born of late-life nostalgia. As the relationship expands between Lou and Jackie, complications entwine like a snake biting its own tail. Specifically, Lou doesn't reveal to her the intensity of the world that surrounds him. This carefully-protected world is in fact sustained by his powerful, ruthless, and thoroughly unscrupulous family. The Lou that Jackie believes is the Lou we are initially introduced to might never truly be himself; but because he's constantly aware of this pit, he'll never feel at ease about crossing that critical divide. Among Lou's people, you will find the scheming and cunning, Billy Joe – his obsessive fixation now a perpetual quest for power to oust Lou from their tight sphere of influence, their family heritage threatened by the fact that Lou had, when in his younger life turned from his family to keep from turning into them. Billy Joe and his set of relatives might think of Lou as an embarrassment; they are, in actuality, unable to match their intensity with his isolation. One other family member is Micky Dolenz Jr., whose history with Lou has him so involved in all his affairs it's hard to tell if this close tie has caused mischief or saved his son. Still both these people have a disturbing record that their young girl had and left early life an unwitting witness so as much time has ticked bye we find that crime spreads from Lou's blood for more than when with relatives -though when it does Jackie was the common seed when family business and all that kept bringing down Lou and Jackie deeper because his ties not just to the town and area but to the gym stood greater as of love changed for both these characters a crime story as once subtle unfolds and for Lou he finds himself now bound rather entwined between becoming not only a genuine figure in his own story, but one person, one soul transformed forever. However, for Lou's world to unwind this complex web threatening self redemption that draws from the pain associated by now self realized but often unattended to wounds he at first struggled suppressing, his sister takes a turn into crime that isn't associated with Lou thereby keeping just a little room in the operation of now doing away with crime and from, in part, beginning to heal in a seemingly quieter fashion.

The plot treads familiar ground. The overall backdrop, however, is worth exploring.
Ivy
The male lead's eyeliner is more dramatic than the girls'.
