In the early 20th century, Canadian folk artist Maud Lewis, an impoverished but spirited individual, finds herself struggling to make a living and living a life that is unfulfilling. However, she eventually meets Everett Lewis, a fishmonger who is a solitary figure struggling to care for himself in a remote part of Nova Scotia.
