Memory

Plot
Memory is a 2022 American action thriller film directed by Martin Campbell, delving into the complex world of an assassin-for-hire who finds himself on the run. The movie takes a darker turn when Alex (Liam Neeson) agrees to complete a seemingly simple job, only to have his world shaken when he realizes he cannot fulfill his obligations. The job in question, however, proves too morally complex for Alex, who has built a reputation as a skilled but highly sought-after assassin. His clientele often request the impossible, and his services are never cheap or without strings. The events take a turn for the worse when Alex's next target requests a routine execution, but the complex instructions only make this kill more improbable. With reservations rising, he starts questioning if completing this mission aligns with his morality. Having refused to complete this job, Alex soon finds himself on the run, with deadly forces pursuing him. A secret terrorist organization, working covertly behind the scenes, calls on their skilled enforcers to eliminate Alex before he causes irreparable damage. Working from the shadows is the deadly assassin and handler of Alex's identity, his opponent, Mira (Emily Blunt). She sees no consequences to taking Alex's life and in doing so ensuring that secrets and security she protects will never be shared. Adding depth to Alex's precarious situation is Marveille's involvement as the counter-force to Mira's agency. He watches Alex from start to finish hoping to aid him from possible catastrophic failure. To further complicate matters, the authorities - a team of skilled FBI agents led by Peter (Matthew Modine) - become involved as well. Agent Peter starts questioning the truth behind the events and soon sees Mira hiding in plain sight. Because their team is made up of few they must find the answers quickly, otherwise risks escalating lives across the board. With the relentless pursuers hot on his heels, Alex finds himself relying on his wits and resources to evade them. One challenge, however, proves too great for Alex to cope with: memory loss. In order to stay alive, Alex must regain his trust in his own ability to reason and choose the most effective actions. Hints persist that a botched medical procedure during his last assassination could have started those memory loss symptoms of the sort experienced by Alex today. Throughout the movie, questions arise about the genuine nature of those people Alex appears to be trusting, or collaborating with, including FBI agency and other parties working with Marvéille together if a true allegiance can be found. Is FBI really working on thwarting Mira or, perhaps, serving their own hidden agenda? Trust also becomes a crucial issue, as, little does Alex know, the individuals assisting him possess motives of their own. One agent – a quiet but extremely knowledgeable and strategic thinker supporting the plot - questions the nature of the work done at the state level across Marvéille's organization too under duress. Even more, where does the line lie for their official government alliances? Ultimately, while running for his life, Alex's one goal remains steadfast: find the answers and hold his own.
