Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol

Plot

In the midst of high-stakes espionage, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) finds himself at the forefront of a treacherous operation. The movie commences with Ethan and his team, including Benji Dunn (Simon Pegg) and Jane Carter (Julia Butters' predecessor, Paula Patton), working to neutralize the notorious terrorist, Hendricks. The extent of Hendricks' reaches and the gravity of his intentions remain unseen until he manages to breach the heavily fortified Kremlin and gain access to Russia's nuclear launch codes. With a morsel of this sensitive information, Hendricks concocts a diabolical plan to execute a devastating nuclear strike on the United States, bringing about unparalleled chaos. However, before Hendricks can put his plan into action, Benji inadvertently becomes entangled in his scheme and inadvertently causes an explosion in the Kremlin, severely damaging the iconic building. The devastating aftermath leads to the IMF being widely implicated in the blast, much to the dismay of Ethan and the team. In the wake of the explosion, the U.S. government, with the President at the forefront, promptly disavows the IMF, grounding the team and rendering them a secret organization without the government's aid. With this deplorable turn of events, Ethan and his team, driven by a sense of camaraderie and unresolved allegiance, are spurred into taking a more clandestine approach to solve the dilemma at hand. In an impassioned, one-man- show, Ethan single-handedly assumes the leadership role, navigating the team through hazy moral landscapes as they take an increasingly perilous pursuit against Hendricks and his accomplices. Forced to covertly amass resources and launch counter-operative maneuvers against this heavily fortified foe, the team begins a globe-trotting, adrenaline-fueled pursuit. Their precarious global chase garners momentum as information surfaces indicating Hendricks' deadly grand design. After scouring clandestine locations and international hotspots, Ethan and the IMF team formulate an assertive plan to track down Hendricks, though apprehension of a catastrophic strike heightens as Hendricks' malevolent intentions accelerate. Amidst the turbulent, plot-twisted backdrop, Ethan eventually stumbles upon a probable solution - the involvement of a retired and enigmatic operative named Brandt, a legendary figure deeply familiar with Russia's treacherous underbelly. With the tenuous connection to Brandt serving as the key to dismantling Hendricks' arsenal, Ethan and the IMF team unite in a well-orchestrated op, delving deeper into international espionage than ever before. The unfolding story sees Ethan confront reality of the unthinkable eventuality, realizing too little, too late, that a major nationwide disaster will shortly take place unless a flawless set of events unfold. Confronting a tempestuous, bewildering moral quagmire, Ethan's mission evolves to cover unprecedented international frontiers - prompting tensions, relentless actions, fierce confrontations, and breakneck-paced action with breathtaking sequences, all bound up in an unyielding drive to subdue a gargantuan peril that shakes the world.
