New York Minute

Plot
New York Minute is a 2004 American teen comedy film directed by Dennie Gordon. The film stars Ashanti, Eugene Levy, and Rachael Leigh Cook. The movie takes place in New York City, where twin sisters Jane Ryan (Rachael Leigh Cook) and Roxy Ryan (Ashanti) are on a mission to achieve their respective goals. Jane, the more responsible and studious twin, is on her way to Manhattan to participate in a prestigious college scholarship competition. With her exceptional academic skills and dedication, Jane is confident that she will secure the coveted scholarship to continue her education. Her mother, Mrs. Ryan (Andrea Martin), has always instilled in her the importance of academic excellence and has encouraged her to strive for the best. In contrast, Roxy, the rebellious and free-spirited twin, is on a mission to crash a high-profile music video shoot. As an aspiring dancer, Roxy sees this as an opportunity to showcase her talents and gain recognition in the entertainment industry. Her spontaneous and adventurous nature often leads her into trouble, but she is always up for a challenge. Upon their arrival in New York City, the twins quickly discover that their plans are not going according to schedule. Jane's scholarship competition is not as straightforward as she anticipated, and Roxy's attempt to crash the music video shoot ends in failure, leaving her feeling disappointed and frustrated. As the twins navigate the ups and downs of the city, they find themselves in a series of misadventures involving a pursuing truant officer, Mr. Belding (Eugene Levy), who is tasked with arresting any truant students. The officer is relentless in his pursuit of Roxy, who keeps evading him at every turn. One of the hunkalicious guys they encounter is Matt Flamhaff (Andy Richter), Jane's crush, who is also a contestant in the scholarship competition. Meanwhile, Roxy develops a crush on Eddie (Eddie Cheever), a charming and mysterious guy who becomes entangled in her adventures. Throughout the film, the twins face various obstacles and learn valuable lessons about the importance of sisterhood, trust, and loyalty. As they work together to overcome their challenges, they begin to realize that their bond is unbreakable and that they can rely on each other no matter what. In the midst of all the chaos, Roxy begins to see the value in being responsible and taking the initiative to achieve her goals. Jane, on the other hand, learns to have fun and be more spontaneous, discovering that it's okay to take risks and try new things. The film culminates in a thrilling series of events that sees Roxy using her resourcefulness and quick thinking to outsmart Mr. Belding and secure a spot in the music video shoot. Meanwhile, Jane navigates the complexities of the scholarship competition and ultimately secures a spot in a prestigious college, but on her own merit rather than solely through her academic achievements. As the film comes to a close, the twins reflect on their experiences and realize that when the chips are down, a sister can be the best friend of all. They have learned to appreciate each other's strengths and weaknesses and have developed a deeper understanding and respect for one another.
