Plot

"Ho Ho Holidays" kicks off on a chilly winter evening as Nicky and his younger sister Jill are eagerly awaiting the arrival of Christmas. While the siblings are busy setting the table for dinner, the doorbell rings, signaling the arrival of their eccentric Great-Uncle Gus. Unimpressed with the festive atmosphere, Gus informs the family that he has invited the renowned children's historian and storyteller, Professor Evergreen, to visit their home. Intrigued by the Professor's arrival, Nicky and Jill soon discover that Evergreen is on a mission to revive the lost art of telling holiday stories and sharing traditions. The Professor shares a captivating tale of an old windmill, set in the Dutch countryside, where the spirit of holiday cheer is put to the test amidst a fierce snowstorm. As the story unfolds, we meet three orphaned siblings - Aletta, Barend, and their younger sister Liese - who have been forced to live in a rundown orphanage, lacking the warmth and love that only a family can provide. Christmas Eve looms large, but with little to celebrate, the children have lost hope. It is amidst this melancholy that they stumble upon the old windmill, hidden away in the nearby woods. The windmill, with its towering spires and majestic sails, appears to be a magical place where the children's dreams and fantasies come to life. Unbeknownst to them, the windmill harbors a mysterious and enigmatic figure - a spirit of the season - who has been tasked with spreading joy, hope, and the true meaning of the holidays. As Professor Evergreen recounts the tale, we see visions of the children's journey through the windmill, navigating the twisting corridors and marveling at the kaleidoscope of sights, sounds, and smells that fill the air. They dance to the whimsical melodies of the windmill's organ, and are enchanted by the twinkling lights of the intricate carvings adorning its walls. Aletta, the eldest sibling, forms a particularly strong bond with the spirit of the season, who shares with her the story of her own childhood, the struggles her family faced, and the sacrifices she made to provide for them. In another segment of the "Ho Ho Holidays" special, we are transported to the bustling streets of New York City, where we meet the vivacious and charismatic DJ Delilah Dazey. Delilah hosts a spectacular holiday spectacular from the rooftop of a towering skyscraper, featuring an incredible lineup of Nickelodeon stars and musical acts. As the snowflakes gently fall around her, Delilah shares a festive mix of stories, jokes, and music that captures the essence of the holiday season. The audience is regaled by the infectious beats of "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" star Will Smith, the irrepressible antics of "Clarissa Explains It All" star Melissa Joan Hart, and the captivating voice of R.L. Stine himself, who recounts the tale of a haunted holiday ornament. Back in the windmill, Aletta and her siblings are faced with a heart-wrenching decision: whether to return to their orphanage or stay in the magical world of the windmill. The spirit of the season imparts a poignant lesson, revealing that the true meaning of the holidays is not the gifts, decorations, or even the company, but the love and kindness that one shares with others. The siblings realize that they have a special gift within themselves - the gift of community and empathy - which they can use to brighten the lives of those around them. As Professor Evergreen concludes his tale, Nicky and Jill welcome us into their home, where the family has gathered around a beautifully decorated Christmas tree. Great-Uncle Gus is seen to be wearing a sprig of holly in his lapel, reflecting the spirit of the season that he has brought into their lives. The family joins hands in a rousing rendition of "Jingle Bells," as the camera pans out to reveal the snow-covered streets, filled with families and friends sharing laughter, joy, and love. "Ho Ho Holidays" serves as a reminder that the essence of the holiday season lies not in external trappings, but in the kindness, generosity, and compassion that we extend to one another. As we bid farewell to the characters of "Ho Ho Holidays," we are left with the realization that the spirit of the season is alive and well, whispering secrets to us from the windmill, the rooftops of New York City, and the hearts of all those around us.
