Plot

NIGHTBITCH Amy, a mother in her late 20s, lives a seemingly ordinary life in the suburbs. She married young and has a toddler son, but her life is not as exciting as she had hoped. Trapped in the monotony of domesticity, Amy is stuck at home, caring for her child and managing the household, as her husband works long hours to provide for their family. The isolation and lack of adult interaction begin to take their toll on Amy, who feels a growing sense of desperation and restlessness. As the days blend together, Amy starts to experience strange and unsettling sensations. She feels a primal power rising within her, as if she is tapping into a deep-seated feminine energy. At first, she writes these sensations off as exhaustion or stress, but as they persist, she begins to feel a creeping sense of unease. Her hair grows longer and more unruly, her nails become stronger, and her senses become more acute. Amy's relationships with others also begin to change. Her husband, growing increasingly detached and emotionally unavailable, becomes a source of frustration and disappointment for her. Her interactions with other mothers at the park or in the grocery store become tense and superficial, as she feels like she doesn't fit in with their cliquey social groups. As she becomes more disenchanted with her life, Amy starts to see the world around her in a different light. The routines and rituals she's always followed without question now seem stifling and suffocating. As Amy struggles to make sense of her transformations, she begins to notice strange signs that mirror those of a dog. She starts to crave raw meat and raw vegetables, and her body reacts defensively to certain smells and sounds. Her rest pattern shifts, and she starts to sleep during the day and stay awake at night, like an animal. Her senses become more heightened, and she can hear even the faintest sounds and smell the subtlest scents. Amy's sanity is further tested as she becomes more aware of the unsettling similarities between her behavior and that of a dog. She starts to see herself in the Rottweiler that lives next door, its fiercely protective instincts and primal passion drawing her in. As she identifies with the dog's fierce loyalty and territorial instincts, Amy feels a dark and alluring energy growing within her. Despite her growing unease, Amy is drawn to this power, as it frees her from the suffocating constraints of her old life. She starts to feel a sense of empowerment and confidence she's never known before, as if she's tapping into a deeper, more primal self. In the isolated, eerie world of nighttime, Amy feels most alive, her transformations accelerating as she becomes more attuned to her canine persona. However, this newfound power comes at a terrible cost. Amy's relationship with her husband continues to deteriorate, as he becomes increasingly frightened and repulsed by her changes. Her toddler, sensing his mother's unhinging emotions, begins to cling to her with a desperate urgency. As Amy's transformation completes, she is left to navigate this treacherous new world alone, torn between her love for her child and her growing fidelity to her feral self. As the boundaries between human and animal continue to blur, Amy is forced to confront the monstrous fears that have been lurking in the shadows of her mind. Her mirror reflects a distorted, feral visage, and she is left to wonder if she can slip back into the role of dutiful wife and mother or if she is irretrievably lost to the primal power that now courses through her veins. The tension becomes almost unbearable as Amy teeters between human and dog, fragile creature and ferocious beast. The cracks in her reality widen as her emotions continue to swing, her anxiety and terror at odds with the exultant power pulsing through her body. Can she reconcile her animal side with her family life, or will the forces that have claimed her lead her down the treacherous path of irreparable harm and transformation?

Absolutely hideous in the truest sense, an American film that's utterly incapable of thinking straight.
