Norbit

Plot
Norbit is a 2007 American comedy film directed by Brian Robbins. The movie revolves around Norbit Rice, a meek and timid man who is engaged to be married to Rasputia, a large and loud-mouthed woman. Despite his love for her, Norbit tries to put up with her abusive behavior and his miserable life in the Projects of Queens. However, Norbit's life changes when he unexpectedly encounters Kate McKenna, a beautiful and charming single mother who has recently moved to the Projects. Norbit is immediately smitten by Kate, but struggles with his feelings, knowing that he is engaged to the monstrous Rasputia. Despite his reservations, Norbit finds himself drawn to Kate and begins to spend more time with her. As Norbit spends more time with Kate, he starts to realize that there must be a way to break free from his miserable life with Rasputia. Norbit, who was only two years old when his father left his family, feels a deep sense of abandonment and insecurity. This is compounded by Rasputia's constant belittling and emotional abuse, which further reinforces Norbit's feelings of inadequacy. Determined to escape his unhappy life, Norbit concocts an elaborate scheme to rid himself of Rasputia for good. With the help of Rasputia's brother, Groove and Kate, Norbit sets out to find a way to get a separation from Rasputia and be with Kate. The scheme, however, gets complicated, and Norbit finds himself in a series of comedic misadventures. One of the central themes of the movie is Norbit's childhood trauma and his struggles with low self-esteem. Throughout the movie, Norbit's insecurities and fragile ego are constantly targeted by Rasputia, who delights in making him feel marginalized and powerless. This theme is compounded by Norbit's relationships with the other characters in the movie, particularly Kate and his friend, Mr. Wong, a Chinese store owner who becomes a father figure to Norbit. In contrast to his miserable life with Rasputia, Norbit finds himself at home with Kate and her son, Milton. Kate's kindness, warmth, and acceptance of Norbit for who he is help him to confront his deep-seated fears and insecurities. Through his interactions with Kate, Norbit begins to develop a sense of self-confidence and self-worth that he has been lacking for his entire life. The movie features a star-studded cast, including Eddie Murphy as Norbit, Thandie Newton as Kate McKenna, and Cuba Gooding Jr. as Rasputia's brother, Groove. Murphy also provides the voice of Rasputia and Mr. Wong. The movie's comedy is often based on stereotypes and physical slapstick humor, drawing parallels with classic comedies from the 1970s and 1980s. In the end, Norbit's scheme to break free from his unhappy life comes to fruition, and he finds himself at the altar with Kate rather than Rasputia. The movie ends on a comedic note, with Norbit and Kate exchanging vows in a hastily arranged wedding. The movie's conclusion serves as a message of empowerment for those who feel trapped in unhappy relationships, highlighting the importance of taking control of one's life and finding happiness with the right person. Overall, Norbit is a zany and entertaining comedy about one man's struggle to overcome his fears and insecurities and find happiness. The movie's themes of self-discovery, empowerment, and the importance of having supportive relationships are well-developed throughout the story.
