Ocean's Thirteen

Plot

In the 2007 film "Ocean's Thirteen," the story begins with a seemingly ordinary event at the Bellagio casino in Las Vegas. Danny Ocean's former partner in crime, Rusty Ryan, is present when billionaire casino owner Willy Bank announces the impending construction of a new Bellagio-owned super-casino called the Bank, promising it will be the greatest casino in the world. Bank's intentions are clear: he will own and control the entire Las Vegas Strip, crippling his competitors and solidifying his grip on the city's gaming industry. However, what unfolds in the days that follow will set off a chain reaction that sets Danny Ocean on a path of vengeance and sabotage. Willy Bank's actions are far-reaching and vicious, extending to include manipulating members of the gaming commission, tampering with the properties of his business enemies, and ultimately leading to the death of his own friend and associate. Bank's heartless treatment of someone as loyal as Reuben Tishkoff, one of Danny's business partners, proves to be the final straw. This doublecross from Willy Bank has immediate and unforeseen consequences for Danny Ocean and Rusty Ryan. Bank not only betrays Tishkoff, but his duplicitous actions have serious repercussions for Danny's own financial standing as well. Danny vows to orchestrate the perfect heist against Willy Bank and his prized casino, ensuring that Bank faces financial ruin and utter destruction. The formula for revenge calls for an intricate plan that will involve assembling a diverse group of Ocean's greatest recruits, men who possess unique skills and were instrumental in planning several key heists over previous years, including the most memorable take-down of Casino de Monte Carlo Bank. For this mission, Danny demands that each member bring their expertise to the table. However, time constraints become an important factor when Danny learns that Tishkoff's health is rapidly deteriorating. This stress forces Danny to rely on his vast array of acquaintances, including the unpredictable Basher Tarr, a clever man highly skilled in explosives, to come up with an original solution which also ensures the safety of everyone involved in the operation. Basher takes a detour deep into the world of high-stakes bridge in an attempt to access a valuable gaming system widely regarded for its dependability. This critical component, capable of operating the infrastructure of the Bank with pinpoint accuracy, would prove crucial for executing the group's aim. In contrast to this, one specific member of his usual crew has managed to secure a different key player that is necessary to accomplish the objective. These will ultimately add to the momentum for pulling off an outlandish and delicate plan as they team up with Terry Benedict's old accomplice Linus Caldwell. The latest trickster to join the team has come together to mastermind a comprehensive, cunningly built scheme during which the entire casino will be exploited for their benefit. Despite having put aside past differences, including conflicts of the kind he shared with Reuben, Rusty Ryan returns alongside each old partner, both loyal to the new mission. "Ocean's Thirteen" offers equal amounts of tense situations and wits over plot developments built around one on one skill-based puzzle solving alongside group strategy, reaching epic highs as Danny Ocean's innovative plan put together with the help of various key players unfolds in an unexpected sequence of situations at the crumbling Bank.

Even though the props in the script are ridiculously fake (this plot is pure wish fulfillment...), Soderbergh's skill in directing this kind of film is undeniably masterful.

Once Julia Roberts is out of the picture, it instantly becomes a much better movie.

Was greatly impressed by Matt Damon's acting. Bruce Willis had a very odd cameo, haha, and Brad Pitt was still constantly eating.

Matt Damon's Mandarin... Let's just say don't mess with Yen, or you'll regret it. Pure, unadulterated fun! Five stars! Who gives a damn about plot holes anyway?

Pitt is handsome, no doubt. But this one never quite reaches the heights of the first installment. For me, the original is still the best in the series.
