Open Your Eyes

Plot

Cilla (Najwa Nimri) and César Wittenbonn (Eduardo Noriega) are among a fashionable group attending a New Year's Eve party. The connection between them becomes apparent, and they soon develop a romantic relationship. César is initially a little disenchanted but he eventually gives in to his growing feelings for her. On a stormy night, César slips and falls while walking home from a club. He fractures his skull and the incident leaves him unconscious and in a coma. When he awakens, he is unable to remember the accident, but struggles with the loss of his short-term memory. Despite the setbacks, César and Cilla rekindle their romance after his release from the hospital. However, as the story unfolds, César becomes increasingly frustrated with the loss of his memories. He tries to reacquaint himself with Cilla and their relationship but struggles to remember even the smallest details. His recollections of Cilla continue to be patchy, and he often confuses her with another woman named Sofia. César discovers he has been suffering from severe headaches, dizziness, and a general sense of unease. The pain intensifies to a point where he has trouble sleeping, and these symptoms continue to exacerbate his fragile psychological state. He becomes increasingly isolated from Cilla as his memories continue to elude him. A chance meeting with Helena Rivera (Penélope Cruz), a woman involved in a car accident years ago, reveals the extent of the psychological impact that César's trauma has had on him. Helena lost a friend in the accident and has since been struggling to cope with her own emotional trauma. The connection between Helena and César helps him understand the depth of his emotional distress. As their friendship deepens, Helena becomes a source of comfort for César. However, Cilla starts to notice César's increasing distance from her, and the couple's relationship begins to crumble. César eventually undergoes reconstructive surgery on his face, but the operation seems to have little effect. He remains haunted by the memories he has lost, even after waking from the anesthesia. The film builds towards a climactic conclusion as César becomes increasingly desperate. His memories continue to be shrouded in confusion, leading to a series of surreal and inexplicable events that threaten to destroy his relationship with Cilla. In the end, César is left with the realization that he may be trapped in a never-ending cycle of loss and trauma. The film concludes with César's desperate search for the truth about his past, and the audience is left with a poignant and thought-provoking reflection on the devastating consequences of physical and emotional trauma. The movie is a thought-provoking and visually stunning exploration of love, trauma, and the complexities of the human mind. As César grapples with the loss of his memories, the film poses fundamental questions about identity, reality, and our perceptions of ourselves. The movie's use of symbolism and metaphor allows it to delve deeper into the complexities of César's inner world. The fractured mirror in his bathroom serves as a powerful symbol of the fractured mind that lies beneath the surface. In the end, the film leaves us with a haunting and memorable portrait of a man struggling to find himself in a world where memories have been torn apart. The film is a powerful exploration of the human condition and the devastating consequences of trauma, loss, and the search for identity.
