Pacific Rim: Uprising

Plot

Pacific Rim: Uprising takes place ten years after the events of the first film, in a world where humanity has resumed its normal life activities, albeit with a lingering sense of unease due to the ever-present threat of the Kaiju. Following the monumental Battle of the Breach in which the human forces successfully repelled a massive Kaiju invasion, the world has momentarily found solace in its regained peace. The Pacific Partnership Defense Corps (PPDC), a global coalition formed to protect the world against the Kaiju threat, has capitalized on this success and expanded the Jaeger program into a behemoth global defense force using advanced technology and high-caliber personnel. These gigantic, humanoid robots known as Jaegers, now operate with unparalleled efficiency in safeguarding global populations from the monstrous Kaiju threat. The story centers around Jake Pentecost, the son of Marshal Stacker Pentecost, the brilliant commander of the original Jaeger program during the Battle of the Breach. After being discharged from a notorious juvenile detention center after participating in a street fight, Jake returns to a reclusive home built by his deceased mentor, Maestro. Jake struggles with a personal crisis where he feels guilt for letting Marsh as his father die in combat, after a situation that turned wrong resulting in Marsh's death during a key battle for the city. However, nothing in life stays tranquil for Jake, for the newly deceased commander, Raleigh Becket, has given his final legacy message to the government revealing the return of Kaiju attacks across the world. The dramatic influx of chaotic activity resulting from the sudden re-emergence of an alien threat has led the country into a massive recruitment drive for a new generation of skilled and powerful people, essentially the most talented of global citizen. In terms of training these young experts for the war against Kaiju, the Jaeger pilots follow a rather strict set of rules and regulations. To test their capabilities, participants face advanced training simulations with other world-class pilots that test their individual competitiveness. These students who have been passed the test are now part of an elite category to possibly get the chance to acquire ownership rights of current vintage Jaegers that can fight through wars against the destructive creatures. Jake joins the Jaeger training program at Del Toro-owned PPDC training facilities in Australia, under a tense instructor chief named Newt Geiszler. Jake is seen competing with other ambitious trainees such as Tic-Tac toe champion and popular athlete, Nate Lambert's ally, Jax and also a sophisticated tech-wiz like cowboy-inspired fighter and pilot, Zara Wing, the daughter of scientist and PPDC elite Dr. Leah Wing and brilliant student, Matias 'Dos' Matanza, a passionate individual from a Kaiju-drained city. Newt's teaching methods may be extremely rigorous, however she still recognizes unique talents of every student who would fight in possible battles. She also takes note that Dr. Herman, the senior developer of the new tech systems of advanced Jaegers that hold top secret status. All these individuals, as these students compete intensely and develop strong relationships, some of which turn into meaningful mentorship, are uniquely prepared for taking up an outstanding challenge in battling their upcoming foes in a spectacular new environment where skill and agility are not enough, yet superior thinking, unorthodox ideas, and bravery to carry anything further in pursuit of an indomitable vision. As Jake and his companions strive to upgrade themselves at the PPDC training center with extraordinary skill, they still confront tragic losses. One by one, young pilots are tested with Jaegers to fight against certain aggressive monster attacks. The death of first-class pilot Tic leads the trainees to examine deeper their values and whether serving under PPDC is a dream with worthy outcome. With few weeks prior to one’s scheduled graduation ceremony at PPDC, Newt and Dr. Hermann give them some deep time to examine the long-forgotten, unapplied or highly secretive, genius-inspired innovation technology created by Ray Marcano just before he died, in the name of protecting civilization from falling like a giant.
