Paddington 2

Paddington 2

Plot

Paddington 2 begins with our beloved marmalade-loving bear, Paddington, settling into his life with the loving Brown family. He is now more than just a occasional guest, and the family has grown to welcome him as one of their own. To surprise his Aunt Lucy's 100th birthday, Paddington sets out on a mission to find the perfect gift. He starts by performing a series of odd jobs around the neighborhood and beyond, determined to save up enough money to buy a spectacular present for his dear aunt. From selling unwanted items found in the sewers to acting as a tour guide for a group of excitable schoolchildren, Paddington's resourcefulness and quirky charm prove to be a magnet for both friends and admirers. However, not everyone is pleased with Paddington's endeavors. Mr. Gruber, a former business partner of Mr. Brown's, has recently been released from prison and is still wrangling the remains of their failed business venture. Gruber takes great offense to Paddington's newfound popularity, and particularly at Mr. Brown's growing closeness with the bear. This resentment builds the groundwork for an eventual animosity that will become the crux of the story. Paddington, driven by his desire to find the perfect birthday gift, makes his way to a local antique shop in search of something truly remarkable. His eyes fall upon a vintage pink coat, adorned with a rather magnificent golden poppy brooch, and he immediately knows that this is the perfect gift for his beloved Aunt Lucy. Desperate to acquire the coat and poppy brooch, Paddington enters into a series of misadventures, from negotiations with the bespectacled owner, to secretively managing to purchase the coat using the ill-gotten gains of his various odd jobs. However, just as Paddington thinks he is finally on the cusp of capturing the glorious gift for Lucy, disaster strikes. The pink coat and its treasured golden poppy brooch vanish into thin air, pilfered during the chaos of a morning rush hour at the local market. Paddington is distraught at being robbed of his heart's desire for Lucy. Meanwhile, Detective Lansing of the London Metropolitan Police Service discovers pieces of evidence which suggest that the purple hat-wearing man, Mr. Knatterbean and the evil Mr. Gruber are connected to a grander scheme. Believing Gruber to be at the center of this dastardly crime, Paddington sets out to gather evidence, along with his loyal friends Mr. Brown, Mrs. Bird and other key witnesses including the insomniac crime novelist, writer Baron Von Ruupertsburg's wife and illustrator and a very distraught Judy (Brown's sister) who was the last suspect to give the purple hat-wearing thief money 'just for making conversation'. In a series of misadventures across London, Paddington is brought face to face with the ever-rising underworld connected with a stolen treasured list used to buy bonds for national railway repair and refurbishment. Paddington had, in fact, purchased an antique from an unexpected 'gifted' underground thief Mr. Knatterbean'. Unaware of the dark truths of these events, Paddington mischievously tries every odd way to gather truth about Knatterbean's whereabouts from his 'undercover operation'. Paddington creates sublimely comical set pieces so in keeping with the other previous Paddington films. The thrilling climax gradually reveals details surrounding both Knatterbeans and Mr. Gruber's involvement which turns out to be all but the tip of a massive iceberg in terms of huge cons perpetrated on the major figures in the story who are initially extremely misled in the facts.
