Plot

In the small, rural town of Rajasthan, a beautiful and vibrant woman named Lachchi is about to embark on the journey of a lifetime. Her marriage to Kishanlal, a kind and endearing man, takes place with great fanfare and celebration. But as the wedding festivities come to an end, Kishanlal suddenly announces that he has to leave for business, and departs soon after with a promise to return within five years. Lachchi, still on cloud nine, is left waiting for her husband to return. However, fate has other plans. Just a few days after Kishanlal's departure, a spirit - or so it seems - shows up in Lachchi's life. Disguising himself as her husband, the spirit tries to win Lachchi's affection and love. At first, Lachchi is taken aback by the spirit's familiarity and the uncanny resemblance to her husband. But as time passes, she finds herself drawn to the spirit's charming and endearing nature, and before long, the two are inseparable. As the days turn into weeks and the weeks into months, the spirit becomes an integral part of Lachchi's life. She falls deeply in love with him, and the spirit reciprocates her feelings. But unbeknownst to Lachchi, the spirit's true intention is not to deceive her, but to be with her. Having seen Lachchi by chance and fallen in love with her, the spirit has taken the form of her husband to be with her for a lifetime. Four years pass by, and the real Kishanlal finally returns to Lachchi's village. But to his shock and dismay, he finds that his wife has moved on and is in love with the spirit. The townsfolk, caught in the midst of this love triangle, begin to discuss the matter and try to figure out who is who. They notice the differences in behavior and mannerisms between the two men, but Lachchi is adamant that her husband has returned. As the village tries to make sense of the situation, the real Kishanlal is forced to adapt and pretend to be the spirit. He tries to win Lachchi back, but the spirit is not willing to give her up. A series of events unfold, and the villagers begin to get frustrated with the situation. They are torn between showing sympathy for Lachchi, who has found love, and Kishanlal, who has been cheated out of his wife and his life. The real test comes when Lachchi gives birth to a child. The spirit, who is now a constant presence in her life, is overjoyed by the news and promises to stand by her and their child. But the real Kishanlal, who is desperate to claim his family back, makes a last-ditch attempt to win Lachchi over. He tells her the truth about the spirit and his love for her, but Lachchi is torn between her love for the spirit and her feelings for her real husband. As the villagers gather to decide who the real Kishanlal is, a series of events unfolds that will change Lachchi's life forever. She is forced to choose between two men who have won her heart in different ways. In the end, it is not the villagers who decide who is who, but Lachchi herself. She makes a choice that will either bring her happiness or heartbreak, and the spirit waits eagerly to see what she will do. The movie Paheli is a poignant and beautifully crafted tale of love, deception, and the complexities of human relationships.
