In the woods of Maine, a group of friends, including the protagonist Kate, have gathered to celebrate her 21st birthday in a traditional camping trip. Kate, having recently recovered from the trauma of a family tragedy, seems to be looking forward to the carefree getaway with her friends. However, the trip takes an ominous turn when they stumble upon an unsettling creature - Piglet, a grotesque humanoid hybrid of a pig and human. The film initially approaches Piglet as an absurd and humorous character, drawing its inspiration from classic fairy tales. This character twist sets the tone for what follows, hinting at the complexities of facing one's fears. The scene unfolds like a ghastly enigma, reflecting on how the campers treat the creature with both fear and curiosity. When the scenario takes a dark turn, resulting in the brutal murder of one of Kate's friends, her and her companions must unravel the enigma behind Piglet's creation. It is revealed through the storyline that Piglet is actually a person known as "Georgie Jr.", once associated with Kate during her childhood. Georgie Jr. was mercilessly teased by the other kids, as well as mentally bullied and humiliated over her pig-like features. The protagonist Kate must revisit her own agonizing memories of bullying to know the roots of this monster in the woods. Further deep down into the plot, Kate discovers that she had brutally tormented Georgie Jr. due to her awkward appearance, thus ultimately inspiring Georgie to transform into the monstrous being Piglet through the stress and darkness she had to deal with throughout her youth. Throughout the story, a struggle between friendship and fear governs the characters' feelings towards Piglet. With the fate of her friends hanging in the balance, Kate finds herself battling her ingrained fear of confronting her past and understanding Piglet's brutal existence. Her painful episodes from her past propel Kate to join forces with her remaining friends and then discover what impels Piglet to unleash bloodshed upon them without any reasonable explanation. When Kate recollects the harsh truths of her past actions, she expresses her profound regret for the suffering she brought upon Georgie. Her newfound remorse forms a resolve that leads her to resolve some of the ill-conscience that perhaps arose throughout her time, especially of bullying others. In one event, when Kate decides that killing Piglet may no longer be the answer and, instead, decides it is more fair to deal with George Jr. further in order to understand her. However, this newly built effort begins towards some great conflicts of will among the friends of Kate. Their feelings towards Piglet vary and her newly formed motive ultimately becomes a factor that forms stark contrasts to their aims. Kate's emotional journey intensifies as she reflects on her responsibility concerning the development of Piglet, as well as her friendships. Piglet being symbolically the manifestation of pain through disfigurement because of bullying continues to propel the story of this haunting tale.
