Point of No Return

Plot
Point of No Return, also released as The Assassin or Podium, is an American action thriller film directed by John Badham and released in 1993. The movie is a remake of the 1990 French thriller La Femme Nikita, which was itself based on a novel by Philippe Djian. Maggie Hayward (played by Bridget Fonda), a rebellious and violent young woman, has a long history of crime and a penchant for violence. She is arrested and imprisoned for several crimes, but her time behind bars only serves to further hone her rough edges. Despite her tough demeanor, Maggie is a vulnerable and emotionally fragile individual who is struggling to connect with others. However, Maggie's life takes a drastic turn when she is sentenced to death for her latest crime. In a shocking twist, she finds herself in the firing squad's crosshairs, but instead of facing execution, Maggie is unexpectedly gunned down and pronounced dead. Unbeknownst to her, Maggie has been part of a clandestine government experiment. The mastermind behind the government's covert operation is a government agent named Bob (played by Dermot Mulroney), who reveals to himself later it is a man only known as 'The Architect' and also later as 'The Man' with the last name of 'Hollier' but referred to as 'the Architect.' He has been secretly manipulating events to ensure that Maggie is spared from death and instead "recruited" into the government's highly classified assassin program. Under the guidance of Agent John "Vex" Vashin (played by Liam Neeson), a seasoned operative with a mysterious past, Maggie undergoes a rigorous training regimen designed to hone her physical and mental abilities. As she embarks on her new assignment, Maggie is given a new identity, and her old life is carefully erased from her memory. Maggie, now known as Nathalie Bonet, is trained to obey orders without question and to carry out her missions with precision and stealth. She is also equipped with cutting-edge technology and resources, which she uses to eliminate targets with efficiency and skill. As she navigates the world of espionage, Maggie begins to question her new role and her identity within the program. As the story unfolds, Maggie's complicated past comes back to haunt her, and she finds herself struggling to reconcile her old and new lives. Agent Vex becomes a mentor and a confidant, and Maggie develops feelings for her colleague, which further complicates her situation. However, Maggie's loyalty is constantly tested when she discovers that the government program she is part of has ulterior motives. She begins to question the morality of her actions and the true intentions of those behind the operation. As she navigates the complex web of espionage and deception, Maggie must confront the harsh realities of her new life and decide whether to remain loyal to the government or forge her own path. Point of No Return is a tense and action-packed thriller that explores themes of identity, loyalty, and the blurred lines between good and evil. The movie features impressive stunts, heart-pumping sequences, and a compelling performance from Bridget Fonda, who brings depth and nuance to the complex character of Maggie Hayward. With its intricate plot and morally ambiguous tone, Point of No Return is a gripping and thought-provoking film that leaves audiences questioning the true nature of power and loyalty.
