Plot

Poison Ivy is a 1985 American thriller film directed by Andrew Davis. The movie tells the story of Ivy Templeton (Drew Barrymore), a charismatic and manipulative teenager who becomes obsessed with Sylvia Tran (Sara Gilbert), a shy and introverted high school student. Ivy, who has been abandoned by her mother and lives in a trailer park, sets her sights on Sylvia's family, the wealthy and seemingly perfect Turners. Ivy befriends Sylvia and slowly insinuates herself into their lives, using her charm and good looks to manipulate them. She begins to date Tom Turner (Tommy Lee), Sylvia's older brother, and soon becomes embroiled in a complicated web of relationships. As Ivy's influence grows, Sylvia finds herself increasingly isolated and confused by her friend's behavior. Meanwhile, Ivy's true nature is revealed through a series of disturbing and violent acts that threaten the well-being of the Turner family. The film builds towards a shocking climax as Sylvia must confront the evil forces she has unleashed and try to break free from Ivy's grasp. Throughout the movie, Barrymore brings a mesmerizing intensity to her portrayal of Ivy, capturing the character's seductive charm and calculating cruelty with ease. Her performance earned her critical acclaim and helped establish her status as a rising star in Hollywood. Poison Ivy is a taut and suspenseful thriller that explores themes of obsession, manipulation, and the dangers of getting too close to someone who may not be what they seem.

OMG! 17-year-old Drew Barrymore is absolutely divine! While the story only scratches the surface of the femme fatale trope, instead of capturing the true "beauty as a curse" vibe, it's mind-blowing to imagine what she could have achieved if that incredibly gorgeous young woman had toned down her signature American grin and struck a pose in a Visconti film. The possibilities are endless!

The epitome of 90s aesthetics, featuring Drew Barrymore at her most stunning – porcelain skin contrasted with fiery red attire. This is a sapphic, Electra complex-infused tale of insidious usurpation, a poisonous ivy strangling its host. Ivy's line, "one day with the top down is better than a lifetime in a box," still resonates deeply today and has a lot of advocates.

The allure of Poison Ivy lies in its unapologetic portrayal of teen rebellion, where the lines between seduction and manipulation blur. The film captures the complexity of youth, blending ambition with the cost of living in a world dominated by wealth and secrets. It's a dark yet captivating exploration of desire, family, and the power dynamics that shape us all.
