Plot

In the searing desert landscape of the Kalahari, a young couple, Kirsty and Ben Smith, live and work as Christian missionaries. Kirsty is pregnant and nearing the end of her term, and the pair is focused on their way of life, surrounded by the vast expanse and beauty of the African wilderness. However, their tranquil existence is brutally interrupted when they are threatened with death by a radical terrorist organization led by a figure known only as 'The Huntsman'. Fear grips the missionaries as they realize they must flee for their lives. Panicked, they prepare for a desperate escape, packing essential supplies, and preparing themselves for the unforeseen consequences. Among their supplies are communication equipment that The Huntsman has been tracking. As the couple prepares to leave, a sudden attack by The Huntsman forces them into a harrowing decision: to leave their lives and livelihood behind for a desperate trek through the unforgiving desert terrain. With their small plane crippled and left stranded to explode, they reluctantly initiate a perilous journey on foot, leaving their tranquil life to fend off death and treachery. Traversing an expansive landscape devoid of any human life, they drift over and into the wild veld, the unforgiving domain of predators. But they soon realize that survival against both The Huntsman's relentless pursuit and ferocious wild beasts was never going to be easy, something they soon come up against: ferocious desert lions, gigantic elephants, deadly snakes and unforgiving weather conditions. With every ounce of resourcefulness drawn upon, the couple relies heavily on her native knowledge of Botswana and familiarization of the environment to outmaneuver their foes and find a means to reach their way back to sanctuary. Cramped with fear and uncertain they progress farther into wilderness under relentless surveillance. Drenched by the intense sun and the continuous attacks of dangerous predators, these Christians could hardly keep their heads above the threats that surround them, their only chance being a fleeing getaway to an available isolated river sanctuary at a distant place. Breathlessly fighting at their wit's end however, the couple and a local group of refugees make a frantic try to outsmart and flee the danger lurking before them, all but one small animal. But even just one such hunter is enough to set right a formidable trail that seems to never wane, constantly tracking the group with incredible accuracy. In this heart-stirring endurance story, one becomes absorbed in following the grueling story of the desperate Christian missionaries, braving harsher conditions and witnessing a terrifying close encounter alongside being unable to shake The Huntsman off their back. Their desperate battle to escape fate brings them immense personal growth and takes the audience on a thrilling adventure in a harsh and challenging African environment, exemplifying in it a crucial test of human survival against the unforgiving dangers of their world.
