Radio City Revels

Plot

In the midst of the 1920s jazz scene, struggling songwriter, Harry Kelly, finds himself at a low point in his career. Despite being a decent musician, he hasn't been able to crack the music industry and make a name for himself. Feeling desperate and disillusioned, Harry is on a desperate quest to find inspiration and success. It's during one of his travels that Harry meets Jeeter, a charming and innocent hillbilly from rural Arkansas. Harry is fascinated by Jeeter's simplicity and raw talent, which he believes can be molded into a hit musical sensation. Seeing an opportunity to ride Jeeter's talent to stardom, Harry offers to promote Jeeter's music under his own name. Without Jeeter's knowledge, Harry heads back to New York City and begins pitching Jeeter's compositions to various music publishers and producers. Harry quickly finds himself having an easy time peddling Jeeter's simplistic yet catchy songs, all while taking credit for Jeeter's work. The songs, such as "I'd Rather Be a Bird" and "Don't Be a Dolly for Me," quickly capture the attention of the music industry, and Harry is suddenly in high demand as a songwriter. However, as Jeeter's popularity begins to grow thanks to Harry's efforts, Jeeter starts to develop feelings of jealousy and resentment. The naive hillbilly begins to sense that something isn't quite right, despite Harry's smooth-talking attempts to explain everything away. Jeeter starts to piece together the truth about Harry's deception and his growing unease eventually becomes a full-blown crisis. As Harry's star continues to rise, the consequences of his actions begin to take a toll on his sanity and relationships. His love, Mabel, starts to suspect that Harry is not being truthful about his newfound success, and Jeeter's increasing demands for recognition and payment threaten to expose the whole scheme. The story reaches a boiling point when Jeeter discovers that Harry has been profiting from his music and decides to take action. With the help of a local news reporter, Jeeter manages to uncover the truth behind Harry's success and expose him for the con artist that he is. The film builds towards a dramatic showdown between Harry and Jeeter, with Harry's reputation and relationships hanging precariously in the balance. In the end, the truth is revealed, and Harry's reputation is left in tatters. He is forced to confront the damage he has caused and the harm he has inflicted on those around him. Despite the darkness of his actions, the film ultimately concludes on a note of redemption. Harry, after facing the consequences of his actions, learns a valuable lesson about the importance of honesty and integrity in pursuing one's dreams. The film ends with a poignant message about staying true to oneself and respecting the talent and work of others.
