Plot
Regular Show: The Movie is an animated adventure that takes the beloved characters from the hit Cartoon Network series on a thrilling journey through time. The story begins with Mordecai and Rigby, the two slackers who have become inseparable friends despite their contrasting personalities. Mordecai, the more serious and responsible of the two, works as a park ranger, while Rigby, the lovable slacker, spends most of his time trying to avoid work. In one fateful day at the high school science lab, things take a turn when Benson, their grumpy and sadistic boss, assigns them to complete a tedious task. However, instead of following the instructions to the letter, Rigby decides to improvise and tamper with the lab equipment. His meddling inadvertently creates a time-traveling machine that sends Mordecai back in time to the year 1978. In the past, Mordecai discovers that he has a younger self who looks suspiciously like him. Upon encountering his past self, Mordecai realizes that he has the chance to alter the course of their friendship and change the outcome of their lives. However, this chance discovery comes with a warning – a sinister volleyball coach named Skips' great-grandfather has been terrorizing the world, and Mordecai's actions have inadvertently allowed him to gain immense power and control over reality. Determined to save the universe and their friendship from Skips' evil great grandfather, Mordecai journeys through time to prevent the catastrophic events from unfolding. Along the way, he is aided by a time-traveling version of himself and a ragtag group of allies, including a rebellious teenager named Tommy. Tommy, a young and spirited individual, becomes fast friends with Mordecai's past self and joins him on his perilous mission to thwart Skips' evil plans. As Mordecai navigates the past, he struggles to balance his relationships with his past and present selves. He must confront the consequences of his actions and reconcile his differences with Rigby, who finds himself torn between staying in the present and joining Mordecai on his time-traveling adventure. Meanwhile, Rigby, feeling abandoned and betrayed by Mordecai's departure, teams up with Benson to track down Mordecai. The unlikely duo embarks on a series of wild misadventures, using Benson's sinister schemes to try and catch Mordecai. As they crisscross the timestream, Benson's actions inadvertently wreak havoc on the timeline, causing chaos and destruction in their wake. As the stakes escalate, Skips' evil great-grandfather unleashes his ultimate plan to conquer the universe. Mordecai and Tommy must put aside their differences and work together to stop Skips and restore balance to the timestream. Alongside their allies, the unlikely duo engages in an epic battle against the evil coach and his minions. In the climactic final showdown, Mordecai confronts his past self, who has formed an uneasy alliance with Tommy's parents, who happened to be Skips' great-grandfather's friends. The stage is set for a dramatic confrontation between past, present, and future incarnations of Mordecai and Rigby. As the battle reaches its peak, the past Mordecai, driven by a desire to protect the timestream and his friendships, makes a crucial sacrifice to reset the time-stream. Thanks to the bravery of Mordecai and his companions, the universe is saved from destruction. Rigby is reunited with his present self, and the two friends finally find peace and closure. As the timeline is reset, the events of the movie unfold in reverse, allowing the two friends to re-experience their time-traveling adventure. Regular Show: The Movie serves as a heartwarming conclusion to the beloved series, celebrating the unbreakable bond of friendship that Mordecai and Rigby share.
