Robots
Plot
In the futuristic, technological utopia of Robot City, children stare in wonder at advertisements plastered on skyscrapers, touting the limitless possibilities of robotic innovation. Among these wide-eyed young onlookers is Rodney Copperbottom, a bright-eyed and enthusiastic robot inventor with a contagious passion for making the world a better place. With a worn, cluttered briefcase slung over his arm, Rodney enthusiastically walks through the bustling city streets, observing the mechanical endeavors that surround him. Rodney's inventive spirit is inherited from his idol, the renowned and respected robot entrepreneur Bigweld. This optimistic engineer has made it his mission to design and build robots that assist and enable humans, rather than simply serve them. However, as Rodney delves deeper into the intricacies of robotics, he learns of the rivalry-driven animosity between Bigweld Industries and the profit-driven Ratchet Corporation. Although both companies appear to offer solutions for the robotic masses, their approaches couldn't be more disparate. Upon learning of Bigweld's legacy, Rodney decides to take a pilgrimage to his idol's headquarters to meet him in person. When he arrives, Rodney is left disappointed, as he finds Bigweld to be suffering from a crippling back injury. Understandably dismayed, Rodney elects to meet Cappy, Bigweld's trusted assistant, with the hope that he can find guidance in the construction of his next marvel. Despite Rodney's inexperience, Cappy proves to be more than eager to support the aspiring young inventor in his quest. Before he can put his energy and enthusiasm to work, however, an imminent threat surfaces, drastically affecting Bigweld Industries and rendering Ratchet's aspirations all but inevitable. Ratchet takes advantage of this timely crisis and seizes control of Bigweld Industries, using this new power to oust Bigweld from his own company. After Ratchet's machinations render the factory redundant, he sets out to terminate Bigweld's influence, fostering a culture in which only machines destined for war or brutal working conditions are prioritized. With Rodney's idols in shambles, Ratchet mercilessly dismantles the once-upbeat company and disenchants its long-time and optimistic engineers. Utter despair threatens to consume Rodney's world as Bigweld is forced to go into hiding. Upon learning of his idol's unfortunate fate, Rodney feels as if the entire future of robotics has shifted into dubious uncertainty. He and his friends, including Fender the repossessed hammer-wielding robot, Gear Grabber, Scissoring Sam, and Bigweld, devise an audacious plan to overthrow Ratchet and his operation, while concurrently re-establishing Bigweld's vision and saving the future of automation for generations to come.
