Roofman

Plot
The film begins with the introduction of its protagonist, Jack Harris, a former Army Ranger who, following his honorable discharge, finds himself struggling to provide for his family. Despite his best efforts, he falls deep into debt and fails to make ends meet. The once-proud and capable soldier is now at his wit's end, desperate to salvage what's left of his reputation and secure a brighter future for his loved ones. Desperation drives Jack to take drastic measures, and he turns to a life of crime. With a twisted ingenuity, he develops a method of robbing McDonald's restaurants by cutting holes in their roofs and descending from above. This brazen and unusual tactic earns him the ominous nickname "Roofman," which spreads like wildfire through law enforcement agencies. As Jack's notoriety grows, so does the determination of the authorities to apprehend him. The authorities eventually catch up with Jack, and he is sentenced to prison. However, his six-month stint behind bars is merely a mere stepping stone in his ongoing saga. Upon his release, Jack finds himself with no home, no family support system, and no direction. Desperate to remain under the radar, he hatches a plan to secretly reside within the abandoned confines of a Toys "R" Us store. Within the vast, toy-filled space, Jack discovers a new sense of purpose and anonymity. He establishes a routine, scavenging for food, supplies, and tools while keeping a watchful eye out for potential intruders. This temporary refuge allows him to plan his next move and lay low for a time, as the world outside seems to slowly move on from the legend of Roofman. As Jack's life within the Toys "R" Us unfolds, he begins to notice a single mother, Sarah, working at the store where he resides. Despite the immense danger it poses to both their lives, Jack finds himself captivated by Sarah's kindness and warmth. They strike up a tentative friendship, exchanging gentle smiles and subtle conversations in the dead of night. Jack, however, soon realizes that he's developed genuine feelings for Sarah and becomes increasingly torn between his life as Roofman and the prospect of starting anew with the woman he's falling in love with. As the tension between Jack's past and present intensifies, he finds himself walking a delicate tightrope. Sarah, who's already healing from her own personal pain as a divorced single mother, becomes drawn to Jack's undeniable charm and vulnerability. The deeper she gets to know him, the more she seems to see past the facade of Roofman and into the vulnerable heart of Jack Harris. It's here that the stakes become exponentially higher, as Jack's double life begins to unravel. The walls he's built – both around himself and within the abandoned Toys "R" Us – start to crumble. Now, with his secret revealed to both Sarah and the authorities hot on his heels, Jack is faced with an impossible moral choice. He can either continue down the path of his destructive past, ensuring the destruction of his newfound love and everything it represents, or take a chance and lay down his arms. With his heart leading him toward redemption and the promise of a new beginning, Jack sets out to leave the ghosts of his past behind and forge a future that, for once, might just be his own to write. The game of cat and mouse that ensues takes a dramatic turn, raising questions about the true cost of second chances, the destructive nature of the choices we make, and the resilience of those who love us the most.
