Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken

Plot
In the vibrant and eccentric town of Poseidia, Ruby Gillman navigates the complexities of high school life. She struggles to fit in with her peers, often feeling like an outcast due to her quirky personality and lack of athletic prowess. At home, Ruby's relationship with her mother is strained, with her mother, Jude, pushing Ruby to excel academically and socially. However, Ruby's life takes an unusual turn when she discovers a hidden underwater cave beneath her bedroom while rummaging through her grandmother's belongings. The cave is a portal to an underwater realm, where Ruby encounters the warrior kraken queens, ancient guardians of the oceans sworn to protect its inhabitants from the malevolent forces of the mermaids. Among the kraken, Ruby finds her great-grandmother, Commander Mermaid-Gillman, the mighty leader of their kind. Commander Mermaid-Gillman imparts her lineage to Ruby, revealing that she is the last living heir of the Gillman kraken dynasty and destined to inherit the throne. The mermaids, led by the power-hungry queen, Malva, covet control of the oceans and will stop at nothing to claim dominance. Malva's army of bloodthirsty, snake-like mermaids seek to dominate and terrorize Poseidia, and in turn, any humans who interfere with their plans. Having inherited the kraken powers from her great-grandmother, Ruby finds herself torn between her mundane life on the surface and her growing sense of duty as a protector of the ocean's creatures. At first, Ruby is overwhelmed by her new responsibilities. Her lack of experience and unease make her question whether she's suited for the role of a kraken queen. With the help of Commander Mermaid-Gillman and Zal, a mischievous guide who teaches Ruby how to control her newfound powers, Ruby embarks on a journey to master her kraken abilities and face the challenges posed by the mermaids. As Ruby masters her powers, she struggles with balancing her duty as a kraken warrior with her high school life. Her friendship with her friends, including Lucas, a charming and intelligent sports-team star, and Toph, a witty and caring artist, deepens as Ruby becomes more confident in her kraken identity. Lucas, who harbors a long-held crush on Ruby, becomes an ally in her battles against Malva and the mermaids. The underwater domain of Poseidia gets increasingly plagued by the mermaids' reign of terror. Ruby and her team work tirelessly to thwart the mermaids' plans, but their efforts are met with failure as Ruby's inexperience holds her back. Malva, who sees Ruby as a threat, takes great pleasure in sabotaging Ruby's chances of controlling her powers. Disheartened by her inability to do what's expected of her, Ruby engages in a confrontation with Commander Mermaid-Gillman. She questions whether she's truly cut out for this life of being a kraken warrior and wonders if she should leave the throne vacant for someone else. However, Commander Mermaid-Gillman stands by Ruby, reminding her that her grander destiny is at hand, and Ruby needs to discover the legacy of bravery and resilience inherent in her family's history. In the climax of the movie, Ruby has a turning point when she finds her confidence, courage, and her connection to the ocean's power. She uses her newfound authority to orchestrate an all-out battle against the mermaid forces. This is facilitated with the help of her friends who become the new guardians of the ocean - they take the role of the mighty kraken warriors to safeguard it. Ruby and her fellow aqua-warriors of Poseidia turn the tide of battle in their favor with a spirited defense that draws upon Ruby's connection to her kraken powers. Eventually, the mermaids are repelled, and their hideous reign of terror is brought to an end. In a somber moment, Romans discovers Ruby's secret after Ruby confesses everything to him, and both her best friend and her crush find themselves confused but better with it and supportive of Ruby as she continues through life on this upward journey now more confident about her new responsibilities.
