Saw X

Plot
The once-notorious villain, John Kramer, more commonly known as Jigsaw, lies in a state of despondency. The shadow of death looms over him, his body wracked with the cruel hand of cancer. Faint glimmers of hope flicker in the darkness, but the grim prognosis points resolutely towards a dire future. Deeming medical desperation his only solace, Kramer embarks on an ill-fated journey to the Mexican city of Tijuana, where he hopes to find a revolutionary treatment capable of vanquishing the malignant tumor devouring his body. His trust in the process is short-lived, as the squalid underbelly of this supposed sanctuary betrays him at every turn. The streets of Tijuana, notorious for their roguish demeanor, give Jigsaw the perfect opportunity to delve deeper into the depths of human depravity that feed the very essence of his malevolent endeavors. Deception laces the air with each step, a cacophony of scams waiting to trap the unwary. With every fib, every ruse, and every sleight of hand, Kramer falls deeper into a labyrinth of pain, losing an important grip on his own fragile humanity. Jigsaw's brutal encounter with this sinister world awakens in him a spark of redemption. Armed with a profound sense of purpose, he puts to rest his dying days, channeling them into retribution. It is here, in this unforgiving twilight, that Jigsaw masterminds his revenge, meticulously orchestrating a stunning descent into chaos. A cast of scammers and heartless swindlers has set in motion a seemingly innocuous business, using human frailty as their currency. Kramer recognizes the parallels between these parasites and the vulnerable souls that had unwittingly marched to his own doorstep over the years. As the game afoot, these interlopers bring Kramer unexpectedly back to his domain, transporting him from the unyielding streets of Mexico to the cold darkness that resides within the labyrinthine recesses of his own troubled mind. What follows is an unrelenting descent into Jigsaw's notorious brand of gruesome, sadistic torture, where a desperate game has led Kramer back to his true calling: playing puppeteer to the pitiful, soul-crushed lives hanging in the balance. In Saw X, Jigsaw once again reveals himself as a master strategist. Understanding that life has little meaning and often precious little value for these wretched individuals, Kramer orchestrates an unparalleled show of ruthless creative forces that churn and devour the lives caught within his notorious game. Intoxicated with a stark defiance and, eerily enough, invigorated by this shocking rediscovery of purpose, Jigsaw's tortured soul gives up the ghosts of death and, regaining his bearings, unleashes forth his vengeance on the world. Throughout the gruesome, yet thrilling narrative of Saw X, the viewer witnesses not only a new path charted in Kramer's destructive odyssey but, concurrently, an unexpected rebirth – the fateful crystallization of an ideate crusade forged against all who prey on the vulnerabilities that were first to inspire Jigsaw's sinister crusade. John Kramer's time may be almost at hand, but through this grim turn of events, he still succeeds in exacting from the living nothing short of the existential purging he had always demanded and believed was their true destiny – the imperative necessity of reassessing the sanctity of their own precious, yet brittle, lives.

Seriously speechless. The movie had that classic *Saw* vibe going strong for most of it, and then it just takes a nosedive with these ridiculous twists. And to top it off, the ultimate twist is just... absurd. It's like finding a dead fly in the middle of your meal. The worst person gets the easiest ending? I just don't get it. And dragging a kid into this mess? Who needs a lesson in inherent human goodness in a *Saw* movie? Are you kidding me? We are so fucking sick – that's what we came for!

One of the biggest problems with the Saw franchise is its weak sense of cause and effect. Sometimes petty thieves get punished severely, while truly heinous individuals manage to escape unscathed...

Okay, here's an English translation capturing the darkly comedic tone: "That female doctor was basically a deranged cheerleader: 'C'mon, cut it off! Slice away! You got this! First, let's smash that foot!'" 😂

While the first half is a tad slow, the character development for John is excellent in this installment. The twist is somewhat predictable, but the execution is quite satisfying. My main gripe is that the final trap in the main sequence felt a bit generic and lacked the visceral intensity of the earlier ones, especially considering how rewarding the plot twist was.
